While reading Jay's comments in the 'Mark Tadd' thread, a thought came to mind. Since we have all kinds of great mental histories of the game in Louisville each January, why not get several of them together and have a 'Road Story' BS session. I'd love to see a group made up of guys like Freddie, Jay, Grady, etc., sit around and shoot-da-shite about the bygone days of the road. Nothing really formal in advance, just take a few questions to get started and I'm sure it would take a few hours to run them out of stories. Would others be interested in such a session? Any suggestions of other players/characters to round up for such a discussion? Thoughts/ideas/suggestions?

Hell, that's all we do anyway when we go to Derby City. Shoot the sh-t and talk about who died, how good they played and funny stories about them. Grady and Freddie are great storytellers. I enjoy all their stories because they're always about guys I knew. Truman and Buddy tell some good ones too. Buddy told me one about a John Deere tractor crank that made me laugh for the rest of the week. It's X-rated so I can't tell it on here.

All of the guys you mention, and many, many more legends of the game, have been coming to the One Pocket Hall of Fame dinner every year at the Derby. The dinner isn't just about One Pocket, as we also celebrate pool action in general, as it is such a big part of the Derby's tradition. The dinner runs about three hours, including the bull session (and bar) for the first hour, the actual dinner, and then the presentations -- which are just one great story after another. Not only do you get to hear all these stories, you sit with these people, mix with these people, and thoroughly imbibe in the spirit of the evening.

Spending the evening at a table with George Rood provided some interesting stories. There were several discussions going on around the room all evening, all of which were full of first-hand accounts and eyewitness reports. See, Jay is already teasing us with stories he can't relay online!
