DCC behind the scenes: Part2

This brings me to another important point. When we started the DCC it was designed not for Casinos! I wanted money lost gambling to stay amongst the players not lost to a Casino. However, at that time Casino action was either in Vegas or Atlantic City, not every where in you're back yard as it is today. I don't believe at this time seeing a slot machine or crap table is as big of a deal as it was then. I may be completely off base and as some say the pool action will be off at the DCC this coming year, but I don't think so. Many people take their vacations for this pool action and if they want it to happen it will. The economy is another story!

High gas prices and increased room rates will definitely have their effect on gambling and even attendance. More people may have to share rooms (if that's possible HA) and plan ahead. Just like were having to do to make this event continue.

I realize I haven't even told you the rates they are charging us. The rate is $105 during the week and $130 on the weekend. If you are lucky enough to have a Harrah's Card you may get it free or greatly reduced. I'm pulling for you as this year I don't get 1 free room, even for myself or family. They tell me it's the best they can do this year and keep saying that no group has ever received that low of rates. They are also making us guarantee a food and beverage minimum. I can definitely tell I'm starting over!.. I have to admit the whole place is a few notches above what we have had in the past. Also another potential problem is they only have 503 rooms and are only allowing us 300 for sure. Since we filled 550 rooms at the Ex. West for 5 out of 9 days everyone won't have a room on site. To handle this problem we have 2 hotels 8 miles away that we will be supplying our own free shuttles. One is a Holiday Express being newly remodeled and a fairly new Hampton Inn. The good thing is we're trying to get a lower rate guaranteeing all the rooms. Don't know the rate for sure at this time, but it will probably be more like the Executive Inn's rate last year. If anyone knows how to get a better rate go for it.

There's more I'd like to tell you but since I type so slow enough for today. Please save you're questions till I do part 3 tomorrow. Thanks, Greg

SAD NOT.......Its is business, and they want the table in their favor should numbers of people not materialize.

CocoboloCowboy I fully understand the business aspect of this , I just find it extremely hard to believe that when you guarantee 300 rooms that one isn't comp that is normal casino practice all over the USA "If it looks & quacks like a duck more than likely it is a DUCK"

Well in reading Greg's story of trying to find a venue for the 2009 Event it appears he did the best he could do. Apparently the venue was holding all the cards, and I am sure they are not totally happy that there will be "action' the house is not getting part of. :sorry:

I am also sure weather of not GREG get a FREE Room, will not be a financial hardship on him. bottom line is he found a place to hold the 2009 DCC, or what Ever they call it should they RE NAME It, and it has been a tough road to get to this point for Greg.

has the date for the derby changed the hotels info for the dcc is the 19th tro the 2nd ? or is he just getting dates for set up and tare down ? also whats G talking about when they say minimum food and drink?

misread post

I guess I need to reread my wording in my post or maybe you read it too fast...... I don't have to guarantee 300 rooms !!!I wasn't even asked to guarantee 300 rooms!!!...I probably would have if I had to though........What I think I said was I had to guarantee an amount of food and beverage sold.......They are setting up a bar and food area like the snack bar at the Executive West and I'm having to guarantee an amount of money they will take in...............I don't remember the exact amount I'm guaranteeing while I'm writing this or I'd post it...... If anyone would like the exact amout I'm guaranteeing I don't mind rereading the contrac and showing the amount to anyone interested........Chad and myself both thought this amount at the time of signing shouldn't be a problem..............I did have reservations at first because they have several other good places to eat on site.... I only hope they serve good enough food at our snack bar so I can meet my quota....The money that they collect from the One Pocket Dinner that Steve Booth puts on also goes towards my quota .....

My only real problem with this is I've never had any numbers from the Executive West regarding how well they did on food and bev. so since I always felt they made a killing on this I'm not scared of the amount , only how it's being tracked.......They also said they would give us a daily count and if it was determined thay we weren't going to meet the minimums they would put on a party the last day with food and drink, so at least we'd be getting something for our money!!.....I was offered 1 free room for every 20 paid at the Executive West this year and was Shocked when the Horseshoe wouldn't give one...The normal on most hotels are 1 for 50...Casinos seem different...At least that's my experience so far...

I have no added money from them at this time (for sure), however I feel they are coming with something good...If I get enough added oney it won't be so bad not getting free rooms..After all I have to pay for several rooms, full price, for players that have won my Master of the Table and AE awards..They have earned it for life!!....

It takes quite a long time to go thru all the channels to get added money from a Casino and I couldn't wait any longer to secure a location......... I've had way to many emails and phone calls from people needing dates for their work/vacation.......Also I didn't really want to leave this area and this was the last place big enough with a possible future .....I don't mind telling anyone I'm expecting 6 comp rooms at the Holiday Inn, nothing yet from the Hampton as I'm waiting on them to get back with me.........Greg/Diamond

For those that might have a pile of cards and can't remember which one it is, the Harrah's card is the TotalRewards card that you might have gotten someplace other than Harrah's (Caesars, Horseshoe, Bally's, etc.).
