Since Greg has posted what is going on, I've done alot of thinking about it and checking the hotels and areas out.

I showed my wife the Galt House website and her first words were "You're not going there without me anymore!". That was nice to hear coming from her. It's hard to go to DCC for 10 days without her but she can't stand the place and there really isn't alot EX West or the proximity has to offer for her to do on her own.

The...GOOD...in having it there, far far outweighs the bad for me.

Some people might have to tighten their belts a little but I think it would be well worth it. A beautiful looking place right downtown with so much within blocks of the Hotel.

When are we going to start getting pool up out of the mud if not for this event???????

I'm down for The Galt House!

I have not looked at it yet but one thing comes to mind. Most pool players really cant afford to go and pay out that kind of money for that many days just to play pool. I would say on the adverge most of the players that go to gamble come out on the looser side and that even makes it worse. I know a lot of the vendors did not do very good at last years DCC and if the prices are not that good i am sure a lot of them wont come back. If he cant find a place that will hold all the 9 ft and the 7 ft tables that will really hurt. The Bar Box players are where most of the vendors make their money and i know last year it was really bad with the BB players so far away. Most of them never came up and looked at what we had to offer. I wish Greg the best and really hopes he does find a place with better rates. Greg if i can help in any way please let me know, Doug

I was at the Galt House 2 years ago for the TAP nationals event and it is an extremely nice venue! I think we got our rooms for about 90 a night though. It was in November.

Total agreement with you Steve. The restaurant at the Exec West is the worse. Pool players got to get out of the rat holes. You want to compete with other sports you got to get better venues. Its not just the cost that keeps people from attending. But the poor quality, rancor, and hassle.
Im also Greg is finally seeing the folly of the rebuy.. Waiting 8 hours to find out when your next match is ridiculous.

How to get Upgraded rooms:

1. Contact Management Before You Arrive: If you are celebrating a special occasion, feel free to mention this in an email. A personable and enthusiastic call to confirm your reservation also can help.

2. Book a Mid-Range Room: You're more likely to be upgraded from a mid-range room than the cheapest room in the hotel.

3. Time It Right: Large city hotels tend to be busier during the workweek. For a smaller hideaway in the country, try for a midweek booking if you have some flexibility.

4. Arrive During Mid-Afternoon: Checking in between 3 and 5 is optimal. The front desk clerk will have a better sense of the day's bookings and cancellations.

5. Look the Part: Dress appropriately. A nice jacket can make a world of difference. If you're traveling with tired children, it probably won't hurt to have someone mind them in the lobby while you're at the front desk.

6. Be Personable: Ask nicely. Mention that you'd be happy to reference the counter clerk's name in customer evaluations.

7. Be Specific: For example: "Would it be possible to be upgraded to an ocean view?" If you have a preferred room that you've stayed in before, feel free to mention it.

8. Mention Relationships: If your company does a lot of business with the hotel, feel free to mention it. If you use a travel service or a credit card that has a "special relationship" with the hotel, by all means, pipe up.

9. Take Advantage of Minor Misfortune: Laundry gone missing? Noisy neighbors? Kindly let management know that an upgrade will wipe the slate clean.

10. Leave On a Happy Note: A nice tip for the doorman. Smiles for the concierge. A note of approval to the manager. Every little bit helps, especially for the next time around.
