Depending on what hotel you're staying at, one is attached and there is another real close (walking dist.) As far as the neighborhood, well I've never been there but I hear it's safer then inside the venue. there have been many reports of people being robbed at the place in halls and elevators. The scum of the world hears quick when there is a lot of cash changing hands, people have been robbed there the last few years from the stories I've heard, but that isn't stopping me, I'll be there this year.

The Executive West is a excellent venue. Lots of parking. To the best of my memory, there are no shopping plazas nearby. However within five minutes drive time, there are several. Safety was an issue last year. Way too many people flashing big wads of cash. Players and railbirds. Greg Sullivan told me there will be added security this year. My only complaint was the questionable food and hours at the in-house restaurant. If you like 'dogs and burgers, there is a snack bar open across from the tournament room. The nearest casino is on the river about a fifteen minutes away. If you don't have transportation, the guys that run the hotel shuttle will take you most anywhere for a very reasonable price! We must have spent a couple hundred with them this year. If you're not driving, the airport is literally across the expressway! Just call the hotel for the shuttle. Be prepared for the time of your pool life! If you're staying off-site, you'll miss lots of action.

If you can't get a room at the Executive West there is a nice Hampton Inn right next door. They have a very good continental breakfast. Of course if you watch the late night action you might not be up that early.
As cardiac kid mentioned, there is a distinct lack of late night food nearby. Last year I just packed in my own groceries and ate in my room.

You are missing too much pool if you are eating in your room. I was there for 2 1/2 days and was only in my room for 4 hours to nap and catch a quick shower. I should have just slept in my car and saved the cash I wasted on the hotel room.

The DCC is a great tournament, I grew up and lived in Louisville until about two years ago and have been before. The tournament is actually in a hotel. I don't know what the rooms are like (I lived there so I didn't need one) but the hotel itself is old and has a nice classic feel to it. The surrounding area is OK, but you would be better to drive to the St. Mathews area (about 15 minutes) or the Highlands (Bardstown Rd). There are plenty of places to shop for your wife there. Also if you want to play pool and get some practice the Barrett Bar is a really cool place to play and Bank Shots is good also. Louisville is a really cool place once you know where to go. Good Luck.

. Just like at the US Open, I was only there for 2 1/2 days and that was about all I could handle.

A Good Trip
Took my wife and son last year and had a great time. Rooms are very nice, and everything is going on just a short walk from your room. Lots of mini tourneys upstairs and "action" in the front room. As for late night food, hang a right when you leave the parking lot and drive straight for a few miles. There is a McDonalds at the red light. Turn left there, and there are other options also. Small grocery stores in the area as well. As far as a nice shoipping-type area goes, the answer is no. You will want to stay with her on this road trip. Have fun!

My Fiancee used to work in Louisville, so I will ask her what are the nicer shopping areas.She's in the retail business so im sure she will know.lol

There were selling Subway sandwiches and Krispy Kreme doughnuts late night around 200ish or 300 in the main rooms.Hopefully they will be doing the same.Greg Sullivan as stated that there will be alot more Sercurity this year.When people flash bank rools, the unsavory types eyes get wide.So hopefully increased Security will help.Plus we just need to be careful of our surroundings

THere are 3 spots in town that they can go.......Jefferson Mall about 5-10 mins south..........St. Matthews has 2 malls on Shelbyville Rd. St Matthews and Oxmoore Mall...........also out a little further 5 mins or so from there is Springhurst and that has a cute little shopping area with a movie theater. I have heard the downtown area is awesome now with all the renovations.
Casino is a mere 25 mins from the hotel.

I don't know Louisville, the closest I have ever been to it was across the river. I stayed three days at Ceasar's in Elizabeth, IN. It is a nice Casino, they have a Texas Holdem area with a half wall to keep non players out but still allow spectating. We robbed the blackjack table, that was fun.oldroller said:

Yes the hotel normally fills up.I would go ahead and make the reservation within the next week or so.I know the final weekend really sells out quickly.We made our reservations about 3 weeks ago ,but we are staying the whole time except for the first 2 days.Good luck and let us know what days you end up going.
