Was the turn out less than last year for tourneys and action games at the new location? How about the booth set ups ? Perhaps the old hotel site was better in regards to players finances and choices to stay at other hotels, food chains a rock throw away.:scratchhead:

I don't have attendance numbers so I assume your observations are valid.
However my observation is that the spectators/participants were dressed better, not sleeping in every nook and cranny of the venue, and overall a little closer to first class.
If we want bigger purses, we should attract people with money.

I talk to a guy today inperson who was that until yesterday, he said the drop was 10-15% over previous year in his opinion. He said once you arrive at the Horse Shoe unless you got a car, you got nothing within walking distance.
I don't remember the numbers for all the events but I played fro the last five years before this year and there were 426 in the one pocket last year and I believe 419 the year before, this year 289, run the numbers. Of course the economy affects it some, the new venue affects it some but the scheduling and the manner matches are scheduled and set affects it some. I didn't play this year because the scheduling last took all the fun out of it. There was no way to schedule your time and even get a bite to eat unless you stayed right there in the tournament area so you could run in and check the board every few minutes. It was better with the tv's in the outer area this year but they are still playing games with the scheduling. I know of one player who had a match scheduled with a well known pro who did not show and was told " oh there was a computer glitch your match is later". The match was on the board the night before for 10 and the player did not show so they just moved it back. Of course they want the name players to be there so they make it happen.
Believe it or not, they finally got the scheduling thing working this year and man, did it make a difference! :thumbup:
Not only that, but there was an added screen for the scroll outside the tournament room, you could get the scroll on the hotel room tv's, and if you had an Iphone, you could see it on line.
This was by far the best organized Derby I've been to.
Jay, Ken and the rest of the crew did a nice job. My hats off to them!!
But where the heck was Scott Smith??? I have become accustomed to hearing his voice throughout the tourney. I asked several people and they said he was MIA...Is this true???????

In a nutshell, working the DCC requires extremely long days and many sleepless nights. The powers that be decided that Scott wasn't right for the job anymore. I thought everything was very capably run by the staff they had this year.
Yes I agree they did improve greatly on the scheduling this year over last but the situation where the well known pro was not at the table for his appointed match and the not well known player was told there was a computer glitch although the match was on the scrolling screen the night before and at match time happened THIS YEAR.
