dead center

Hey guys. Looking for the best option for a longer, narrow dead center for turning shafts. Where do you guys get yours?

I made mine using a MT2 arbor and some steel rod. I bored the arbor on my lathe, then turned a steel rod to a press fit size and inserted it into the arbor. Then machined it down to a narrow dia. and ground a point to it.

Thanks for posting the link. They are available without the spur collar for $15, but you have to call or email to get the plain dead center.

They are 4 inches long and 3/8" diameter.

Put it in a drill and grind a point on it by hand against the side of a bench grinder wheel. I like the 12 inch because I can clamp it in both chucks on my hightower deluxe at the same time for a better grip without needing a collar to stop it.
