Lack of playing on a pool table has nothing to do with why cushions turn rock hard, sorry.

Can it be explained how a table that wasn't played on for over 5 years becomes faster in the first few weeks of being put back into play?
Table was dead as a doornail when my neighbor picked it up. Now it plays much faster. Not great but at least tolerable for some 3 ball.
