Dealing with Slow Players

You really only have 3 options:

1.) Speed throttle them. Just go ape shit and run the **** out. Before you know it the set of over.

2.) Out slow them. Take breaks, go have a cig, make a long visit to the lue, take a few long phone calls, hang around the bar and ask them to make a fresh pot of coffee. Flirt with some bar chicks. When you finally do get to the table walk around it several times each shot. Make it totally obvious that you are out slowing them. Make them feel like scum.

....or

3.) Get over your self and just play you own pace. Have fun and enjoy the game...

LOL,
Play some sets for 1k and see if you feel the same....I doubt it!
If you can 'run out on them at will' than nothing matters...but thats not the case...
r u Shane?...lol
Playing slow back will get you helpless after a while...doesnt work.
'Playing your game' is almost impossible ( unless you're a slow player ) against a slow shark.
Slow play works on most players as does the oldest move...'unscrewing in front of
player about to shoot the money ball'.
Thats why its illegal now in pool.
Players cannot be permitted to slow play anyone at any time...period!

Yeah I think I know exactly what I'm talking about. You came up against a player or players who play the game in a way you can't handle and you let it become an excuse to lose to them. Then you come here and post like they're the problem, when really it's all on you. I'm sorry the truth hurts.

And truth be told I have trouble dealing with it too. When you are forced to sit and watch someone playing slow the natural tendency is to get bored and then when you finally come to the table to rush your own play. Except then you're letting their game affect yours, instead of the other way around, and usually this is going to cause you to miss or miss position somewhere down the road. So yeah, the best defense against slow play is to not let it get to you. Patience is a virtue.

Lol, snooker has no time limit, and that game isn't exactly struggling these days. Same goes for baseball. Wouldn't it be nice if pool was as popular as either of those games?

Snooker had a time limit, still does in some cases and there are calls to bring it back. Black ball has a time limit. Snooker hasn't been doing as well as in the past either. Baseball has been trying to speed up the pace of play for a while, which does include a time limit for pitching with empty bases.

Now, if the rules stated that there is no shot clock, I'd be going into it agreeing to abide by whatever rules are in place. The fact is that there is a shot clock rule and they refused to enforce it.

I understand that the best option is for something annoying to not get to me, but the reality of it is that it gets to many or most people.

I thought we were talking about the local tourneys slow player.

Agree if playing for bigger money. You have to know your player. And if your gambling these things shouldn't bother you if you have your eye on the prize. In fact you may hope to be playing a slow scared type of player. Every time he worries and comes with a bad shot you can make him pay which will magnify his fear.

1. Grab some Kleenex
2. Find a semi-private space
3. Wipe your eyes
4.Take off the skirt
5. Put your big boy pants on
6. Go kick some ass
This doesn't only apply to slow players. It can and does work in all facets of pool as well as life.

P.S. if this doesn't work I find watching another table while my opponent shoots helps.
