Deciding on a home table

I have a large great room which now has an oversize Brunswick 8 foot. Im looking at a 4 1/2 x9 Gold Crown I and a refinished Arcadian 6 leg table also the same size. I wondered what the pros and cons would be. The Arcadian would be 3k and the Gold crown is about 1500 both before putting up either. I wonder which would be the best bang for my buck including value and of course playability. I would appreciate any help. Thanks, Deacon

I don't know but a refinished 6 leg arcadian for $3K seems like a great deal. I love the arcade and arcadian. You could find many GCs but a refinised arcadian probably won't come a long again.

I agree, while 1500 is a good price for a gold crown, you would have a nice piece of brunswick history with the arcadian and have a table that no one else around you would have. Those old tables were well built. Condition of the slate would be my only concern. Making sure that if any repaires were done to the slate that they were done correctly.

I would go with the 6 leg arcadian!!! The old tables look so good when they're refinished. Much more of an eye catcher than the gold crown imho. Plus the old tables are rock solid and play great when set up right....

Arcadian all the way!

I agree with everyone else the arcadian is by far the best choice of the two tables. The extra money is well worth it to get that piece of pool table history. I remember playing on a restored, six leg billiard table back in the late seventies and have never played on anything as solid as that old Brunswick classic! It played so true it was incredible. No question about which table I would pick, gold crowns are all over the place, get the arcadian.

I moved, setup and recovered one of these in mint condition several years ago for a real estate lady. She bought it from an elderly lady that was selling her house. They had a written appraisal for the table of $24K but I don't recall who did the appraisal (thinking Nashville Billiards). The cue rack in that ebay listing - I just saw the exact same one at an antique place here but in much worse condition and they were asking $800. The eBay listing looks like a gem and I didn't see a reserve price on it. I'll be curious to see what that table goes for.

I have a set of slate and the table it is a BBC monroe 9 footer made in 1910 if anyone needs good t bolt slate with good threads in all nuts.--Leonard
