Deleting Posts

I'm curious, what is the accepted behavior around deleting posts.

Say a person starts a thread, doesn't like the way it turns, is it okay to just delete them? Do you get unlimited deletes?

I've seen it happen in the last few days and it's the first times that I have.
 
There was a prolific poster here years ago that got so upset at something that he manually deleted years worth of his posts... (sadly, as he had quite a lot to offer)

And yes, there is one person that would post multiple times in a particular off-the-rails thread, and then delete most of them within a few days.

Unlimited would seem to be accurate, in regards to posts. You need a mod or admin to delete a thread.

I'm not looking to delete anything, just noticed that a couple thread started in the last couple days just disappeared, not even in the original poster's history. Thought it was weird so I thought I'd ask. I'm talking the entire thread disappeared, not a particular entry.
 
That's an interesting observation. I wonder if anybody else has experienced similar events?
 
I believe only a moderator can delete a thread. A member can only delete their individual posts, within a thread.

Are you sure the missing threads are really gone? Maybe they just got way down on the list of recent posts?
 
As the forum has become more racially and politically charged here recently there have been a lot of posts deleted by Mgmt. Shit is off the rails in NPR right now from all sides. People arguing like spoiled children over the same topics over and over and over and over again. And the same 15 or 20 members. I pop in and out just for the thrill.

Somehow, I don't see new posts there unless I go into that sub-forum, for the past year or two. It makes visiting this site so much more enjoyable, IMO:)

I've seen a lot of silly posts in other forums where the posters delete them once they figure out how dumb or clueless the thing they said was, it's just embarrassment. In one case on a tech forum some person that had no idea what they were doing was posting silliness for a year, then decided to do their own YouTube tech channel and asked the moderators to delete their old posts so people could not find out how little he knew about the topics a month ago LOL I knew what happened because I am a moderator on that forum and it was going around in the moderator chat about requests to delete posts. For some reason when someone gets an answer to a question, they sometimes ask the post to be deleted.

main thread, first a poll, then a post following the poll. The poster in the following post said they'd deleted the poll, next day the following post was also gone. Not a big deal, don't have a problem with the poster, just didn't know you could delete posts like that, maybe they asked the moderator to dump it.

Yeah, but I'm not trying to give trent any grief, he gets enough.

Really just a question of forum etiquette regarding deleting threads. Seems kind of strange that you can get people discussing a topic, going back and forth and then just get it removed because your done with it or maybe it's not moving the way you wanted.

Then again, maybe that's just fine.
