Can the person who starts a thread delete it? What would be the pros and cons of being able to delete your own thread? Like in the wanted for sale section. If posters could delete threads say after a cue was sold there wouldn't be so much bumping. Plus you wouldn't have to look at thread after thread of cues that are already sold. Or a thread that creates drama and you prefer to just take it down. Maybe when a thread is deleted it goes into another section like an archive. You could no longer post to it but it can still be viewed. Just an idea.

No audit trail in case it was ever needed.......and privilege levels for program access to files, records etc.
If it were my site, I would not allow people to have delete privileges, only edit like AZ already does.ll
And frankly, I don't see any pattern of problems with threads closed, i.e., sold, being bumped, except for
the occasional compliment to the new owner or the seller as Congrats Messages.....and that stops quickly.
And then without being bumped by anyone, the thread just goes away....into the distant back pages.....not
to be seen unless or until someone wants to research by browsing about a certain cue-maker or style of cue
or for a cue case or pool/billiard balls etc. And so then you do a search and bring up all the past posts which
would not be possible if people were deleting their threads as you suggest or otherwise asked about.
Anyway, that's my take on the matter.

We used to be able to delete threads *and* posts at the genesis of this forum.
One member deleted all his threads and was banned. I think his name was Gremlin. He was a strong women's pool enthusiast.
I think there have been times when I have been disappointed in the behavior on this forum that I wanted to delete all of my posts. Still do sometimes. I have forged forum friendships, however, that I do value.
Anyway, the reason for not being able to delete threads is probably because of people like me. :embarrassed2:
Allowing users to delete their own threads is an option in some forum software. I allow users to edit their own threads on forums I set up. I think users should be able to edit their own threads and delete trolls. Having that ability would make this a much better board in my opinion. Would seriously cut down on the flamers.
On my facebook threads I simply delete those with whom I don't want to argue with. If I want to argue then I address their comments and I delete any that are out of line or off topic. Works great. They get the point after a while and either argue with some manners or they go away.
