Hi Guys.

I have an older 18" (maybe 10-15 years old now) Delta band saw I used when I was making guitars and was thinking of using it for full-splice blanks.

Unfortunately, that is not possible now, because the saw is a giant stinking POS. I used the table saw when I made my first blank and cleaned up the bottom with a coping saw... I did a lot of sanding on the guitars...

Anyway, I am wondering if anyone on here has up-graded the saw to a full ball bearing guide set up, and if so, where they got the parts?

I am planning on a new Starret carbide blade but that means nothing if the guides can't keep the blade straight...

Delta has its own website. I dont know if you can call them. I got my saw from grizzly. Whenever i have a prob i call them up. Their tech support is pretty good so far

I would think with a tune up you'd have a good candidate for a dedicated set-up.
New wheel bearings.......
New urethane tires......
New spring tensioner.........
New link belt on the motor.......
New machined and balanced pulleys........
New Carter bearing guides for the blade.............
New throat plate...........
And last but not least.........a new high quality blade.........

Can't beat those older machines for being built solid and heavy..........

I will check those links next.

I bought the saw new and it never really performed to my expectations... And it wasn't a cheap saw either!

I may just re-make all the parts so I know they are true. Billet wheels (*BLING!*) should run truer. Other parts are really like new; fairly low hours on this machine...
 
If you are gonna spend that kind of time and money why not just buy a laguna hd series.

I can get a Laguna for $400.00?!?!

Where do I get that? I'll order it right now!

(I say that because new guides, tires, tension spring, etc. and a set up will be about that; I have the Delta saw already). You cannot get the expensive balanced wheels for this cheap saw, so I'll probably just make those myself from aluminum bar. I could even have them balanced at our West Virginia facility! I just thought of that! With that done, this will be a pretty sweet saw (i hope)...
