Deluxe lathe motor upgrade question

What exactly am I missing? I can do everything I need to right at the headstock and have a more powerful, longer lasting motor. Those Penn motors won’t outwork one of the servo sewing machine motors.
the DC motor might not core.............. but mine has been running for 12 years just fine........................ put a house cue on your lathe ............. you will want to move the head stock........................ it's just more versatile

It’s close but I like this one and buy the 45mm clutch motor pulley. You will see it below the unit in Amazon. I think they are $8. The only thing that is a PITA is figuring out how to reverse the motor. Once I got that figured out, I haven’t had any problems. The handle for speed control works great on this one and others I’ve seen have had to be modified to get them to work.

I was inspired to put one of these brushless DC motors on my lathe by this thread and your post. I should have done it long ago! I found this 750W unit for $105 (there is a $20 coupon in the listing).

I haven't measured the actual power draw to see if it's really 750W, but it's infinitely better than the 1/2 HP AC motor I had been using. I need to mount it better, but even just thrown on my bench its been a lot of fun. The motor speed control works great by just removing the return spring.

Note: If anyone else does this, sewing machine motors by default spin in the opposite direction as lathe motors. You can reverse the motor in the controller settings easily enough . But I started three fires with my drill bits before I figured it out the problem.

I don't think the O-ring I'm using in the above photo will last long and will switch to a timing belt.

I went the very expensive route. Using the Glock cnc 750w brushless set up . With some modifications I mounted it to the headstock so it's movable if needed. Controller works awesome.
