Dennis Hatch question

So I am watching the 1990 match against Mike Sigel and boy does Dennis look young. I think he was 19 at the time and played great. If this is a rehash that he does not want to discuss, I am fine with that, but I was wondering what happened to him during the 90s. I know he disappered, but I wasn't sure why. My guess is drugs, but during this match Mike Massey was saying he knows Dennis doesn't do drugs and is a good clean kid. So I was curious.

Before someone starts blasting, I don't really care what he did as he is one of my favorite players now. I loved him during the last Mosconi match and really respect the fact that he has gotten his life back in order.
 
Thanks for the link to that story. I had never seen that before. I did know that Hatch went away for a bit, but I am glad he straightened things out because he is one of my favorite players to watch.

I just watched his 1990 match against Sigel and Hatch won 11-10. Sigel was the man back then and for a 19 year old kid to step up and beat him is remarkable. He made some mistakes in the match, but did not let Sigel get to him and pulled it out. Great stuff.

As I just said to you in a pm, I watched Dennis beat Jim Rempe in the New York State 9 Ball Championship when he was 16. Enormous talent! I rooted for him at this year's Open all week.
