Dennis Searing Cue: Should I Have It Wrapped? Will He Do The Work?

I have a Dennis Searing fancy sneaky pete. I'd like to have a wrap put on, but I'm not sure it's the right thing to do. Should I do it? Will Dennis do the work? I hear he can be "hard" to work with. If someone else were to put on the wrap, would it hurt the cues value?

Thanks

I bet he'll refuse it.
The man has years' worth of work.
Good luck in talking to him in cutting a wrap groove on that cue.
The finish might chip at the top and bottom of the wrap ( accidents do happen).

It was made with no wrap and should stay that way. The proportions would not be right with a wrap.

Do I dare suggest a slip-on wrap? The upside is you can remove it after using the cue and you keep it the way the maker intended it to be.

wrap or no wrap

I have 3 searing cues and Dennis will do any work for his cues. he is not difficult at all to work with. my suggestion to you is call him.

my personal opinion is leave the cue alone. One thing you find out is dennis makes each cue by hand and balances the cues with the amount of wood, and other materials. when you start cutting wood away and adding a wrap you are changing the balance and ultimately the hit of the cue.

just my 2 cents.

enjoy the cue. It might take a bit to get a handle of that cue, but once you do look out.

Depends on who the someone else is and what the finished product looks like.
If the someone else cuts the groove right, and does a flawless job where you can't see the seam in the leather and everything is flush, I doubt the cue would loose any value.
I also doubt that it would change the way the cue plays. It's your cue, you can do anything you want to it to make it look, feel or hit better to suit your needs.
If you do decide on leather and dont like it, I guarantee you have no trouble at all selling here or on fleebay for more than your initial investment.
BTW...
You can put me on the "to buy" list for your wrapped or unwrapped Searing.

I was thinking about a natural calf skin wrap, like the one on this Tascarella that Dick Abbott has for sale at http://billiardcue.com.

I think the cue would look stunning with a wrap like that.

I don't think I'm going to touch the cue, though.

Here's my cue again. I think the points are long enough to keep the proportions from being thrown out of whack if a wrap were to be added.

At first, I wanted a wrap. Then, I decided to leave it alone. Now, I have to have that calf skin. This thing is driving me crazy. When I decide what I'm going to do, I'll get you a price and some updated pictures.

Thanks for your interest,
Steve

DO NOT wrap that cue, he made so very of those. He will re-wrap it if thats what you want. He gets a bad rap here from a few guys that are never satisfied but I know he will do it, trust Voodoo.
