Denver peeps - Shakespeare's has reopened

I swung by the new Shakespeare's last night for a few minutes. Couldn't play as leagues were in full swing there again, and the remaining tables were all busy (aside from the snooker/billiards tables).

FYI it's on Walnut, just north of 26th on the right as you head up Walnut. Just a little ways north and a hair east of Coors Field. After 5pm, people can park in front of the other warehouse/businesses, but not before (else the tow trucks will descend with a vengeance).

It's REALLY nice inside - they did a hell of a job with the space. High ceilings (old warehouse-y space), great bar setup.

Does Jery Karsh still own the place? He was involved when I was there.

Jerry was a pretty good 3 cushion player back then.
 
I was there on new year's eve, I agree it's a nice place, great ceiling. Nice playing conditions. I don't care for the tables (Kim Steel) mainly because of the straight rails, I'm used to a slight curve.

I think the bar is a bit too separated from the main room. In the old place you could sit up in the high area and watch the action. Can't watch from the bar in the new place.

But it's still probably the nicest room in town, at least from a style perspective anyway.
 
How is that neighborhood now? I know it is better than it was. I will have to try to get there the next time I am there.

Also, not to hijack, but has anybody been to that place on Broadway I saw written about in the best new rooms issue of billiards digest? I wanted to check that place out but didn't get a chance when I was there a couple of months ago.
 
Alex: Yah, that's a good point on the bar - thinking about it now, I would have flipped that whole bar section around 180 degrees. Or just had the bar wrap around that wall so you had a side toward the tables as well.

JPB: Place on Broadway? What's the name?
 
Does it have new tables? The last time I was at the original Shakespeare's I wasn't very impressed with the condition/quality of the tables...

Same tables I'm pretty sure, but I imagine they recovered them/etc. seeing as it was a prime time to do it.

problem is I forget the name. It is a bar that added a retro pool room with an old anniversary or two and a gold crown or two. Some retro kind of decor. I think I threw out that issue of BD and now I am forgetting the name. Maybe I will think of it. South of downtown on broadway but not way south. Does that narrow it down?:o
 
Nope, haven't been there yet. Only heard of it. I do know that Tom Ross, who was the house pro at Shakespeare's, has basically landed there - and when he was offered his old spot back when Shakespeare's reopened, turned'em down as he wanted to stay at the Skylark. *shrug* Dunno more than that.

Alex has probably been there... he gets around. :D

Pair of Dice pool room or something like that. It's a great place. It's a small 4 table (2 beautiful Aniversary tables, one Gold Crown and one Valley Bar table) room above the Skylark lounge. The whole place is done up in a 40's decor and feels great. Tom Ross is the bartender, most people know him as the house pro at the old Shakespears.
