Denver: Tablesteaks South or Rackem?

Next weekend, I'll be in Denver for work, and was looking for places to play most likely only for a couple of hours on Friday night. I'll be staying in the Aurora area and looking for a place to first practice and then maybe play some cheap sets. Did a search of threads, and Tablesteaks and Rackem seem to consistently come up as the best places, and both are fairly close to the Aurora area, but I need more information?
Here's what I'm looking for: 9 footers, preferably GCs, well spaced tables, and the atmoshpere of a 'players' room. Don't want to get stuck on a table next to 5-6 guys all standing around one table and having to say "excuse me" every time I shoot or try to walk around my table. Don't want to get hustled or woofed into a game with the local hot shot, but am willing to play cheap sets with well mannered players that respect and know the game. Don't want to have to worry about my cues being stolen, and don't want to get jumped in the parking lot after possibly winning a couple of cheap sets. And, will I have to wait for a table on a Friday night?
Thanks all,
dave

Might just stay at the room Dave! LOL. These things can happen anywhere.

Tablesteaks sounds like what you're looking for. I didn't go to Rack em when I was there, but the owner did give me call and invite me over! Pretty impressive. I met the owner of Tablesteaks too. Very nice guy.

I met up with a lurker from here and played some for fun. While we were playing, another guy, dubbed "ATM" approached and I played $5 a rack with him giving the 7 and the breaks. He won $10. LOL

Have fun!

Dave, since your in Aurora I'd go too Rack Em first, its close. I personally designed this garden level room (built early 90's) let me know what you think. Tony (Tonys Hustlers) did the install of all the Daimond 9' tables during his earlier years with Greg Sullivan, you'll find the table spacing exceptional and most likely the equipment too. They are the early Diamonds with the deep shelf slates. Table Steaks south will have Brunswicks there but not sure about the spacing. They are quite different rooms and Table Steaks south was built/designed and is owned by Frank Burgess, an iconic room owner many times over from the Denver area who's a great guy.

Har. I know ATM. How drunk was he at the time? :P

Surely he tried to talk you into a bigger game.

Yeah I realize that getting 'convinced' to get into a game over my head can happen anywhere, and that's kinda my problem right now. Haven't been able to play/practice but about once a month for the past year now, so I just don't think and play like I should. And the problem with all of us pool players is that when we rate our own speed, it's always based on our best night ever!
ATM? Don't know him personally, but his name is all over the Denver area pool scene and tournament results. I'll probably avoid him:grin:
Thanks for the info.

Let's not leave out Greenfields

I made my first visit the other night to Greenfields, which boasts about 17 tables throughout the bar (Diamonds mostly) , with a dozen or so in a tournament room that's lined with boths and has bars at either end. Of course, this place is on the other side of town.

The play looked pretty high level with lots of players sporting their own equipment. My hunch is you can find action there.

I'm editing this post to say I visited again tonight (Saturday) at 7. Place was stone dead. One table in action, a date.

Had one beer and split. Still considering joining a league, however.
