Derby City Banks Observation

I've been watching a lot of the streaming on youTube and especially the banks matches. Never saw them before, and have been figuring out the rules by watching. I see that a ball that drops without being called, or on a bad hit, gets spotted at the end of that turn. Sometimes the shooter spots it, sometimes the other guy as he comes to the table. But I'm also noticing that after their turn is over, a lot of shooters seem to reach down where the balls are before leaving the table area. It looks like they're reaching for a ball to spot, but they don't, and then then leave the frame of the camera.
I hope I'm describing that well enough. What are they doing?

Just counting where they're at scorewise. They're putting the balls (they've made) to their side.
Thanks!
I was wondering if it was something with the score. Probably something that would be intuitive if you could see it happen, and not just the top half of someone reaching down.
Thanks for responding!

Yeah what you can't see is there's a wire rack with a divider in the middle just below the ball return and each player will pick a side and keep their balls in that rack until the game is over or they have to spot one due to fouling.
Thanks. It seems that the scoring that we see when watching matches is done elsewhere, and it's often lagging a bit from what is actually happening, the people calling the match on the livestreams often mention that. I'm sure the guys playing know exactly where things are at, and that rack makes complete sense.

Yeah unfortunately for the viewers at home all the players aren't as diligent at updating their score on the iPad. Especially ball by ball. It's something we all have to get used to. 5 years from now I think players will be a lot better about it.

Pool tournaments are kind of cowboy productions for the most part.

Lack of attention (understandable) to the end product really leaves a substandard production when nobody/ everybody is responsible.

These folks (Five&six) are on it. Is there an American equivalent?

Yeah as true as all this is, it's hard for certain demographics to adopt new technology when they've done something "the old way" for so long. But as some of the 40-50 somethings age out of these events it'll get better.
