The hotel right at the Derby City event fills up fast and runs about $99 per night per room if you stay all days. If not, the weekends will run around $120 per night.

But you can stay at the Red Roof Inn in Louisville for only $52 per night for a room with two double beds. CHEAP! And they contribute money to the pro players for every night you stay there. That Red Roof Inn is at:

4704 Preston Highway
Louisville, KY 40213
(502) 968-0151

Use discount code # 602763 and your group is: AZBilliards.

Am I beating this Red Roof Inn horse to death? You bet! They are the only company in America that is willing to donate 1% of their sales to supporting pro pool and I think they deserve our support.

Hi Jerry,

I have never been to this event adn want to go this year.

How far away is the Red Roof from the event?

Thanks,

Russ...

Russ,

I am not sure. But it is very near the old site at the Executive West so if anyone can tell us how far that is from the current Harrahs location that would be great.

My educated guess is 15 miles- They have a Waffle House there too which is a pretty big plus.

I stayed at The Galt House (not suggesting this place, very nice and expensive) in downtown Louisville and it wasn't a bad drive to get to the casino. Only thing that made it bad was being tired and the snow. Manageable though for sure.

Google Maps says it's about 22 miles from the Red Roof Inn to the Horseshoe Casino. This is probably only about a 25 minute drive unless you end up with road conditions like we had last year, with all the snow and ice. Last year, we stayed at a place in L'ville that was about 25 miles from the casino, thinking that we were willing to do the half-hour drive for what we saved on the room. Well, the half-hour turned into about an hour and 15 on those road conditions, and it honestly ended up being kind of a perilous situation since we were competing in the event and had to be there at a certain time.

Don't get me wrong, I'm certainly not trying to talk anyone out of staying at the Red Roof Inn. I think it's wonderful that they are willing to put a portion of that money toward supporting the sport, and I will support them whenever I can. However, I do feel obligated to let people know that there is a potential safety consideration here as well if the weather takes a turn for the worse. Being the pool fanatic that I am, I'm perfectly willing to risk my own life and limb to witness what I feel is the greatest pool event on Earth, but I won't take that same risk with my wife in tow again.

Here's hoping that the roads will be better this time, and everyone will have a safe and enjoyable trip to the Derby,
Aaron

I would advise anyone not to rent a car from Budget as they gave me one last year with bald tires one day ahead of the worst ice storm in history in the region. Being from the NY burbs, it wasnt much of a problem once i got out of my space at the hotel but i wouldnt recommend it for southerners.
