The Twelfth Annual George Fels Memorial Straight Pool Challenge at Derby City will be taking place January 22nd to 28th, 2017. The qualifying attempts will take place Sunday through Wednesday and the single-elimination playoff tournament is Thursday through Saturday. With over $15,000 added this year and 100% of entry fees returned as prizes, the total prize fund is expected to exceed $21,000.
For a $100 entry a player gets 12 tries to set a high run from a break shot of his choice. There is $600 in prizes for the top three runs each day of the qualifiers. The top eight players go on to the final tournament. There is a prize of $1000 for the highest run overall and a special additional prize of $1000 if a player sets a new record for the competition. The record of 227 was set by Jayson Shaw in 2015.
Sponsors are Diamond Billiard Products, Aramith balls, Simonis cloth, Red Shoes Billiards, and several individual sponsors including Johnny Archer, Darren and Angie Appleton, Bob Jewett, Rich Klein, Stu Mattana, Robert Goddard, Stan Haines, Dr. Chet Osborn, Bill Maropulos and Dennis Walsh of Walsh & Townsend, Ltd.
The Qualifying Portion and at least some of the matches will be streamed by TV MIke of billiardnet.tv . Some of the matches may be streamed by Accu-stats if they have an opening in their schedule.
All of the qualifying runs, and the rest of the matches will be video'd and significant runs and the matches will be uploaded to youtube after the event.

The event has been getting bigger each year. Last year, we got the total prize fund up to $18,800 including 68 entry fees at $100 and $12,000 added. This year we expect much more. We now will have 4 tables going throughout the qualifying stages, so we will probably generate more entries.
