Derby City

Hi Tony,

Right now it is looking like I will not be allowed to play in the Derby City Classic. I was denied a waiver to play. The rules of the WPBA are becoming a little more strict. I had intended on playing in all three tournaments this year. Even if I am not allowed to play, I still plan on attending. I think DCC is a great tournament and definitely a piece of pool history that should not be missed.

Maybe if we all cross our fingers I will be allowed to play :) I look forward to seeing you there again this year.

Take care,
Sarah

Sarah,
What is the WPBA reasoning behind not allowing any of their members to play this year? I think it is great for the sport to see everyone competing on equal ground.Seems to me the WPBA could realize more exposure by allowing for you ladies to play. Thanks
Tony

Tony,

The way I understand things is that the WPBA wants the tournaments to be sanctioned by the WPBA in order for us to play in them. I agree with you that the tournaments are good exposure for us and most of all it proves that the women can play! Hopefully the rules will be revised and we will be able to play.

Take care,
Sarah

That makes it pretty easy to understand why the men don't have a governing body like the WPBA or the PGA and it's easy to see why the UPA and other governing bodies have so much trouble gaining any real position of authority or power. Rules like this invite defiance.

It's hard for me to see how allowing you to play would be bad for them...the WPBA. What is the fear? How can players participating in some other tournaments be harmful?

I don't mean to say that anyone is wrong. I don't know enough to be able to understand the reasoning.

Are you back at Ride The Nine?

I'm sorry it took me so long to get back to this post.

I am going to ask about this here in Florida. I agree that it seems as though it cannot be harmful for us to participate. I see it as supporting the sport not a tour. The more players that show up at a tournament, the better and more "professional" it looks.

I hope that the situation will be cleared up and myself and the others will be allowed to play. If not I will definitely be there to watch.

Take care,
Sarah

Sarah:

Am, I wrong when I equate (sanction-$$$$$)...????

Is this correct...the WPBA wants a sanctioning fee from any event that you play in????

Wayne (Toronto)

Sorry again for the delay. I haven't heard anything back in regards to this tournament. I didn't get around to asking much about it.

Wayne, the WPBA is looking for sanctioning fees from the other tours in the U.S. I'm not sure what that fee is or all that is included in becoming sanctioned.

Take care,
Sarah

DCC and the WPBA

Sarah,

As of last week, Greg & Co. have filled out and returned the necce$$ary paper work that will allow the WPBA members to play in the DCC. Speaking as both a fan and vendor, last year's DCC was a great success. Having some of the women pros playing helped make it so, and your continued participation, along with other WPBA members, could help make it even better this year. I hope you yoo enjoyed your visit to our fair city. BTW, Greg has already received commitments from a couple of the top Japanese women players.
Good luck,
Mike

Mike,
Thanks for the update.Where is your booth going to be this year? Watcha selling? Maybe ill stop by.Thanks

Dcc

sweatinNbettin...booth #6, Maloney/Compton Cues...been there 4 years...vintage McDermotts, Meuccis, many Schons. Custom cues...will have a large number of Mike Erwin and Chad Carter cues, also have some cues by Bender, Espiritu, Rauenzahn, Robert Weir, Mike Webb, Bob Runde, Keith Josey and about another half dozen or so cuemakers. I should have a good selection of hand tooled leather cases by Dennis Swift. Come by and say hi.
Mike

Ok, we have talked before. You had a nice chad carter last year. That i tried out and hit a few balls with.I remember seeing the one you had kept for yourself that had a lot of blue in it.Are you going to have any of his plain jane style cues this year?
Thanks

Dcc

After last year's DCC, my oldest daughter, Alyson, talked me out a Carter similar to the one you saw. She and a friend then go to Vegas in April and win the APA's Jack & Jill tourny. Within a few weeks, league players in town had bought all of the remaining Carter cues I had. I talked to Chad a couple of months ago, and he expects to have me a full case of cues for this year's DCC. I'm sure there will be some sneaky petes in the mix.
Later,
Mike

Mike,

Thank you for your update. I really appreciate hearing that news. If everything stays on track I will see you there...everything depends on the money situation at the time being. I will at least make it for the 9ball portion.

See you there,
Sarah

sarah, what's up?.....It's your buddy from Indiana. I hope that i see you at the derby city classic and you aren't to busy to talk to me this year:(

just giving you a hard time.

c-ya soon

I was thinkng if any tournament could pay the fee it would be the DCC as all that buy back money is not part of the purse and as i understand it, the sanctioning fee is a percentage of the purse.

Anyway this sounds great!!

Well everyone, my apologies for speaking too soon. After a slight tease of possibly being able to play, the WPBA has denied the waiver.

Hopefully I will still make it there to watch the action and meet many of you. If not, enjoy yourselves. It is definitely alot of fun.

Take care,
Sarah
