Diagram & Why Do I Miss

The balls are the same for all shots. The cue is the same for all shots. The pockets are the same for all shots. Nothing changes with any of them from shot to shot. The only variable between shots is what you do.

If you hit the shot with top spin, but miss it with draw, you are changing more than just the tip position on the cue.

As someone pointed out, I can only assume that your fundamentals are not quite as rock solid as you believe they are. Something is changing with your stroke.

Steve

I agree. I probably dont hit the CB right exactly dead 100% on where i want to when i shot a long draw shot. on shorter easier shots they still go in. on a longer draw shot, that slight fluctuation causes me to miss.

Try setting the same shot up using the two object balls. Now take an object ball and place it in line to make it. So now you have your original shot set up but have just added the object ball you plan to make. It will take some precision to set this up. Now shoot the shot.

Did you make it? Did you hit one of the blocker balls?

I think your problem may be in aiming. Now try this---Set up your straight in shot but aim at the base of the object ball (where it touches the table). Let me kinow what happens.

I set this up like you described. i practiced one stroke between the two object balls and didnt touch either. then i put a ball about a foot behind the two blockers, right perfectly in line for a straight in draw shot. and i drilled it, dead center. and the CB came back and hit one of the blocker balls.

makes me shake my head........

You should post a video of you shooting this. Get a laptop with a webcam and post a video. Otherwise, this is impossible. If you care enough to improve, care enough to post a video.

I don't know why it makes you shake your head. The answer is simple. If the cue ball doesn't come straight back, you did not hit the object ball dead center. If it came back and hit the blocker on the right, you were slightly off to the right. If it hit the one on the left, you were slightly off to the left. Since the pocket is twice as big as the ball, it can easily appear that you hit the middle of the pocket, but actually been slightly off center.

It's physics, Mike. Pure and simple. When you understand that what the balls do will help you learn what you did, you won't have so many questions, but you will have a lot more answers.

It's the same principle used to determine a good or bad hit. Officials will usually make the call based on what the balls did after contact, rather than try to see which ball was hit first.

Physics doesn't lie.
