How weird, I was just coming on to post the same question. That looks like 9 3/16"? Is that the surface the carpet attaches to, or does it step in there?

I'm assuming we have the same idea. I'm going to build the machine myself, but use (or at least have the option to use) Diamond's carpet and center spoke? I'm starting my build using a cheap drill press for the motor and spindle.

Also, the diameter of the bottom spinning plate would be helpful if it's no trouble.

That looks like a good design too Steve. The main reason I want to build to diamond spec is that I assume they have already done the troubleshooting on the best carpet/cleaning pads to use, and it's probably easiest to just use theirs instead of wasting a bunch of time on my own to find what works best.

The replacement parts have been out of stock at Seyberts for quite awhile

Does anybody know anyone else that sells the whole bundle like that?

I think it is just run of the mill residential carpet, a medium nap.

It does have velcro strips on the backside and there is a small gap between base/ sides of interior.

The owner of a local pool room built his own ball cleaner based on the Diamond design. It has two 8-ball platters both spun by washing machine motors connected directly to the shafts, built into a large, heavy, three foot high cabinet. He used the Diamond machine floating sprockets that he bought somewhere. For the rims around the platters he used the ends of large diameter PVC drain pipe (here's what I mean - www.youtube.com/watch?v=8nI_fyPQ0tI ). Don't know how the carpet was attached to the inside of the rims but I think just carpet tape would work. The machine is a tank, spins like crazy and does a fantastic, very fast job. If it ever ejects a ball you better hope you're not in the way.

Yep, I have a few ideas, I just finished two bucket polishers but I want something nice but I would like to know the dimensions of the spindle. I probably will end up buying one off seyberts for 25 dollars. The picture sent is kinda difficult to see. I am building my man cave and I want a nice looking box that I can personalize

That one is the best one I have seen, if I can make something like that, I would be happy, I would stain the wood though

Not to spam, but can anyone answer these?

I take it that you are asking about the picture... If you look at the lighted part, the carpet is perpendicular to the outer circle and slightly larger diameter as well.

I guess it's about a half in ch deeper, and then the carpet makes it almost flush with the outer (box's) opening.

Oh, and the exterior diameter is 9 1/8",same as the interior, if measured without compressing the carpet....

And there lies the scrub.

You can buy replacement sprockets and the carpet in a kit from Manning Cues... A bit pricy like all Diamond products. They are like $90 for two.

Are you trying to save money over the Diamond, or make a comparable one for the satisfaction that you did it yourself?

If the money, IDK if you will really save much. If you buy similar grade components it will get pricey. If you charge yourself for your design time, well then its a no brainer the Diamond will be way cheaper.

Just playing devils advocate and wondering why you want to build a really nice one. I understand the bucket ones are cheap, but if you want one as nice as the Diamond, that's a whole different ballgame.

I do own the Diamond one, and that thing is a beast. I have no desire to build one, and I'm a lifelong woodworker with a full shop, and I like gears and motors and belts to boot. But no thanks I'd rather pay the money for one already debugged and made.

Anyway, just food for thought:)

Just got my dual platter Diamond ball polisher yesterday – ordered it like 6 months ago but I believe it will be worth the wait. We still have our 26 year old Bludworth unit, but I think I will retire it and maybe use it for customer’s home table dirty balls sets they bring in for me to clean.

Only complaint - for $700 ($840 including UPS shipping), I find it a bit strange Diamond did not offer it with a matching top/lid to go over it to protect it. They could have at least offered a top as an added upgrade/option.

As heavy as it is, I’ve found a permanent place for it in our pool room. The first thing I did was to get my handyman to make a matching lid to go over it, to make it a little harder for curious customers or kids to mess with it.

I've made my own Diamond like unit as I had most of the parts laying around in my shop, and the rest cost me another 20 bucks or so. It was a fun project quite honestly, and the hardest part to make was the star, and getting its diameter right to match up with the outer diameter as my first star I made was slightly off. Also, once it was built, I realized that the speed was too fast and ended up installing a rheostat to get a workable speed that solved the issues created by the higher speed of rotation. The rheostat created its own issues as I'm sure it will negatively affect the long-term life of the motor. I'm willing to accept that given how little I have invested, and also only use it every two to three weeks or so. Does a fantastic job, but if you want a unit that will last, just buy the Diamond unit, or build one with the proper parts, but that will probably cost you at least $300.

Used mine today for the first time. It’s unbelievably quiet was the biggest pleasant surprise compared to my Bludworth unit. I am a bit questionable about the material of the pads they use for their unit. It is certainly a far coarser material than the F1 felt pads I’ve been using on my Bludworth machine for years.

Yes, I’m sure this material is more durable and will last longer, but I’m a little questionable as to whether it will leave the balls with as polished / high luster a finish as the F1 felt pads do, particularly when you are talking about a brand new set of premium balls like Brunswick centennials or Aramith tournaments.

I plan to conduct a little experiment, as I have two brand new sets of premium balls. I will first compare the finish/luster on the sets to make sure they are identical. Then I will spin one set in the diamond polisher and the other set in the Bludworth polisher, for a full five minutes, using a few drops of Auto Glym on each ball - a product I’ve been using for years that was recommended to me by someone on this forum. I’ll then remove and compare the luster of the two sets of balls and report back.
