Does anyone know what's going on with this room? Went by there yesterday and saw a sign on the door that said "closed for re-model, check back soon". There didn't seem to be any work going on, just hope they haven't fallen on hard times....

The Diamonds Billiards is closed. From what I heard they have been behind on the payments for months in excess 100,000. I have heard different whispers that it will and won't re-open. I sure hope it does I have recently moved here and started playing in their weekly tournaments I liked the 9footers.

That really sucks, it was the only decent room within 2 1/2 hours of my house... The only other room that I know of in Reno is "Cues" about a mile north on Virginia st. Not a great place IMO, kinda run down.
I have never heard of Cues I will have to check it out. Yea it sucks I am now scrounging round at these bar table tournaments that are race to 1.

Not sure what Daniels has to do with Diamond Billiards in Reno. I believe it was Jeff and his wife/girlfriend owned Diamond. What am I missing?

It closed down a few years ago and re-opened as more of a bar with bar boxes if my memory serves me right.
thats sounds right, i say that cause i went in there with JA in 07 or 08 in Dec one of the last tournaments Shane double dipped JA in the finals(what ever year that was). the funny thing is thats the room I met JA in in 86. I played lots of pool there, I met Mary Kenningston there in a car ride over in the late 80's as well.
The last time I was there was with JA like I said above the room was shot, they still had the one GC that was 3" too low-been there long as i could remember, the room was layed out differently and the people working there were clueless-one guy recognized JA-just one. The room was past dirty and just a mess. I knew it was on its way out. What I didnt get is why they changed it around they did have a good set up for bar biz and pool back in the 80's.
I had some great times in Reno, wow....... Never really did well in pool action there, probably came out even or a little behind, Did make $$ on rail bets. Always fun tho
So where is there a good place to play and match up, some tournaments etc? Sounds liek there is a decent pool community in Reno from what I have gathered from my time here.

Reno was good 20-25 years ago, not great but good for pool year round, it was GREAT when the tournaments were going. I dont think it's good now. sadly
Right now I think Atlanta is a great spot for pool.
It's a shame... There's some pretty good players around Reno, hopefully the place will open back up. I think one of the downfalls of the place is it had no food. I know it's not cheap to put in a kitchen, with all the permits and code requirements, but you have to have food. I hope there really is a re-model in the works, but I'm skeptical...
