Is there any way to keep the leather color off the balls? If I shoot hard into a pocket it will leave a dark smudge on them. Is there any way to stop it?

black leather pocket marks

Brown pockets seem not to leave the marks-
U have a choice of two things u can do to reduce or stop the marks..
Mink oil or saddle soap will help..

Let me start by saying I am not a mechanic. I simply remove as much of the dye as I can using a rag and denatured alcohol. This takes a bit of time and muscle but the problem goes away. Make sure you turn the rag often and keep going over the inside of the pocket until the rag stops removing dye. If you think like a speeding ball you can tell what parts of the pocket need to be worked. I have done this with black and brown pockets and on Olhausens and Diamonds and it works. I can not tell the difference when looking at the table and even if I could it wouldn't matter to me. I hope this helps.
