Diamond Pro - Balls jumping on rebound

My dad has a 9ft Diamond Professional table. He had the table recovered with Simonis 860 and the worn-out cushions replaced with Brunswick Superspeed cushions about 3 years ago, by a table mechanic. The table played great for probably a year. Due to some rearranging the table got covered up with cardboard and a drop cloth and sat un played for maybe 10 months or more. We disassembled the table and moved it into a new area. I reassembled the table, and recovered the bed with new cloth. The rails now play super fast, and when hit with speed the balls tend to jump when rebounding off the cushion. Logic would dictate that the rails are low, right? My question is, how did moving and reassembling the table change the rail height? The rails weren't even disassembled, we removed the whole rail system as one piece.

Am I going to have to shim underneath the rails to get the cushion nose back to where it's supposed to be?

The cushion nose measures 1 7/16 from the bed, which seems adequate to me, but what do I know?

The only other problem could be that the rubber is getting hard, which will help the balls climb the rails so to speak when banked into them, just like dirty balls will do.

You're tellin' me I've got dirty balls?!

They are pretty marked up from the leather pockets. I'll try that. Thanks Glen, you da man!

Where did the rubber come from? I have replaced alot of Brunswick rubber from them getting hard. The glue has been changed in the Brunswick rubber so many times that the rubber hardens faster than the old ones. Spend the money and get you some Artemis rubber from Diamond. I am suprised, who ever did the table rubber should have replaced them with Artemis the first time and you would have saved alot of money and time.

your cushions may have become loose. Pinch the nose of the cushion and wiggle up and down, is there good adhesion to the sub-rail? Your cushion may have come unglued and is sagging, only being held in place by the cloth. I'm surprised you had to replace the artemis cushion.

We brought the table from South Carolina to the Alabama gulf coast. It played fine up there, but shortly after getting it here the cushions stiffened up. I don't remember if the the table mech talked my dad into the Brunswick cushion, or if that's all he had to offer in a higher quality cushion.

I've seen the same thing start to happen when the balls get gnarly.

I think it's one of the reasons bartables have such poor rails.

Humidity could play a factor in the balls hopping off the rails as well. Humidity makes the balls and cloth sticky, which stops the balls from sliding off the cushions, and makes them sort of cling to the point of the cushion, and with forward spin, they try and spin UP the nose of the cushion, causing ball hop. Try banking the cue ball into the rails, straight on, using draw english...no hop, then try follow english...watch for the cue ball to hop. If this is what is happening, you have a sticky situation. Clean the cloth, clean the balls. If this test does not give you the answers you're looking for, then the problem is in the cushions, there is no other reason for ball hop on rails that are at 1 7/16" high at the point of the cushions, other than over sized balls...LOL
