Is there anything special about the slate to a Diamond Prof? Are they all 1 peice or is that an option? What makes them different from any other manufacturer? Is the pocket radius different? I know that they have a larger shelf area but is that more in the way the rails are made as opposed to the slate?

Slate

Presently the Diamond Pro has three pieces of slate, however in the future I believe they are going to have a option for one piece. Not sure on the pocket radius. Give Brain Miller at Diamond a call and he will let you know.

Hal

The ProAm is one piece; the Pro is 3 piece. The ProAm has ball return (a great system, too). I believe a ball return is an option on the Pro, but I'm not certain of that.

As for the playing characteristics, the Diamond Pro and ProAm's are tough but fair. The Pro Cut pockets are a shade under 4.5", though I believe you can order wider pockets. The Pro Cut pockets are perfect, IMO, for serious players. In all, Pro or ProAm are the best tables I've played on.

A ball return was an option when I got my table (3 yrs ago). I think the "Pro" desination means the table has the tight pockets. Wider pockets are available but then I don't think it's called the "Pro" anymore. As has been said the table is tough but absolutely fair. You just can't hit the rail very far uptable with any speed at all and expect the ball to fall. You pretty much have to hit the pocket to make a ball... and that's the way it should be.. imo. If you just barely miss then you missed! No Freebies! Ooops.. I'm on a rant again.

The Diamond Pro is the model and it is available in two different size of pockets. 4 13/16 inch pockets and the tighter 4 1/4 inch pockets. These are corner measurements.

I stand corrected.

Other than the fact that all slate is made from rock, there's nothing out there that can really be compared to a Diamond Professional. If you want a complete run down on Diamond vs the rest, I'll be posting a thread about just that subject shortly...right after I finish the post about leveling 3-piece slates.

Does anyone have an opinion on the optional ball return on the Diamond Pro? I'm sure the ProAm has a better ball return system, but is the Diamond Pro ball return as good as a Gold Crown return?

No, not at this time as of yet. But hopefully that'll change shortly, watch for my later posts on this subject.

I am told that the ProAm has a better ball return system. The Diamond Pro has to be adjusted perfectly by a knowledgable mechanic to work as designed/intended.
