Diamond slate help?

I purchased a set of 9ft diamond slates to upgrade my antique Brunswick but they were stored outside and the pressboard Diamond glues to the back of the slates has seen it's better days... I contacted diamond but they no longer use framing on the back of the slates with the new leveling system so that's a no go.....

I considered taking the frames off of the Brunswick slates and attaching them but I am hoping someone actually makes new ones for a fair price.....

Any help would be appreciated...

Yes the wood can be replaced easily buy a local woodworker if you cant find anyone else....is the Brunswick table you have a T-rail table?

It's a 1939 Moderne so it is possibly the first Brunswick that was not a T-rail... It has the rosewood rails that look like an Anniversary or Centennial and anchors thru the slate...
 
Rail bolt pattern isn't going to line up either, so you're going to have to drill the slates as well, guess you didn't figure on having to do that too:grin:

PS. Just for you Idaho, this post wasn't made to be arrogant buddy, it was a way of pointing out that there's a few other things that need to be done in order to make a Diamond slate fit onto a Brunswick frame and rails...as in..."did you figure in matching the Brunswick rail bolt pattern to the Diamond slate rail bolt pattern" or do you have something else in mind? And the OP does, switching to the Diamond threaded inserts, but there's still going to be some issues with 4 of the rail bolts almost lining up with the slate bolt holes, but not quit, so the original holes in the rails are going to have to be plugged before they can be drilled out.

Actually have the diamond anchors so I can put 4 anchors into the rails to further get the table to modern playing specs....
 
Just an update... I have a set of frames coming ran me $120 included shipping... They are hardwood for 57inch wide slate and they aren't drilled for anchors and they don't have pocket cutouts..... That way I can match them to the diamond slates.... It's a table company so I won't spill the beans on who they are since this is not their norm but if someone gets hard up and finds this post PM me and I'll tell you who to contact... :thumbup:

Drilling the slates with a hand drill is a piece of cake. Just have extra batteries charged!!

Be careful using the Diamond threaded inserts in your rails, Poplar wood won't hold them in as secure as Oak does.

hmmm definite food for thought... so I guess you are saying the rails are rosewood over poplar? I truthfully didn't even look when I tore it down and they have been wrapped up in blankets ever since.... Hoping to have it back together by December... Was gonna have the whole thing redone but if I wait on the budget to allow for that it will be another year of not playing tacked on to the last 2.... I am considering stripping and staining the sideskirts if I can talk Paul or someone else at diamond into clueing me into what their red stain is :wink:

Yep, Rosewood on the top and outside edge, capped over Poplar. Minwax red mahogany;)

Idaho, you started this, I didn't. You're not a table mechanic, your comments are out of line, and if you really think I "belittled other mechanic's" here, then copy and post the comments you're talking about so I can see what exactly you're talking about for myself. You can contact Mr. Wilson if you'd like, that's up to you, but I'm not the one out of line, you are, as I don't play these games, I have better things to do, like trying to help other table mechanic improve there skills, not knock them down;)

Renfro, sorry about some of these side notes, I don't know what Idaho's problem is, but it's clear he has one.

Call me about using the Diamond inserts before you use them.

No worries and I appreciate the offer... I am waiting on a call from Paul about the "new" rail rubber... I should get my slate frames in 2 weeks on the monthly truck delivery.....
