Difference in diameters between shaft and butt

Hey az folks

Right now I'm playing with a Katana on a Valhalla butt. There is a slight difference in the diameters between the katana and the butt. So there is a lip right there at the joint. The joint is tight and it doesn't affect playability.

I think I'll have the same type of "lip" when using a cynergy on this butt as well.

Does everyone else just put up with something like this or do you normally just buy matched pairs (shaft with butt). I imagine you put up with it since people buy shafts like revos and cynergys and put them on all sorts of butts and they won't always line up.

Live with it - you'll forget all about it soon.

Very common. I never sweat this. Some players are very AR about this and have shafts made to fit perfect or have them modified.

I have been very lucky with Predator shafts matching up. There must be a standard diameter utilized by most production cuemakers.

I have a lot of shafts and only the 2 originals fit the butt perfectly at the joint.

Completely workable, for me.

Ha, even the thought makes me cringe, to the point of, NO. It would drive me crazy. But I'm OK with that. Crazy I mean.

Predator, Mezz, Lucasi, most production cues have their standard at .840" so if you order a butt or a shaft from these companies with no instruction, expect to receive a 0.840 diameter.

Some other companies have been creating larger diameter, for example Jacoby, and I just received an email from them, they make their shafts + butts at 0.847, they always have been doing them that way, so if you order a jacoby butt and a revo shaft you will notice that the shaft is smaller in diameter than the jacoby butt, shaft will be 0.840 and butt is 0.847

I except that this is your case, the cynergy will come to you at 0.840, and your butt is most likely more than 0.850, so yea! the way to solve this is to email the company, i.e. cuetec or predator, ask them if they can create a shaft with your specs, i.e. larger diameter to match your butt, measure your butt in inches, its better, check if it is 0.850 or 0.847? then ask cuetec to send you a shaft with this measurement for a match.
