Digital Read Out self install

I have a friend that claims he can install a dro for me at a price. BUT, he says I should only buy a fairly pricey one. Says that you get what you pay for and it wouldn't help much to buy one of the cheaper models.
What do you guys think is a good model and for how much money?
Can a cheap one work???? Thanks,

There was a cheap digital readout on the lathe at my work place. It does not have a calibration function or anyway of correcting for linear inaccuracy.
The scales are level to the machines axis.
Easson seem to be very good value for money and know several people who have them installed on their equipment.
Here is a link to a site that have Easson and other dro info for you.
I like the look of the magnetic scales, which I have not seen before in person.

I used it yesterday to take off .020 from a tenon and it was accurate within .001. That could have easily been error on my part using caliper, but that is pretty darn good.

Don't expect and kit, regardless of price, to be a simple bolt on ordeal.

I recommend dropros, adding that a real person answers the phone with excellent knowledge and a willingness to help.

I have had two (lathe & mill) from Grizzley for about 7 years now and no problems.

I have a Mitutoyo X and Y DRO that I pulled off my Bridgeport. The X was working and the Y was not. Don't know if needed cleaning or what, but if your interested let me know.
