Hi guys, started learning pool early this year so my qns might sound silly hope u guys dont mind.

Is dime shape nt recommended on 12.75? Ive read differences about the 2 shape. And 11.75mm shaft nt recommended to shape in nickel?

What do you guys use and on what diameter shaft?

Am I nt recommended to shape my 12.75mm in dime?

You just opened up a can of worms. LOL. I really think it's just personal preference.

Since you asked, I shape all of my tips to a dime radius. Wether it be 13.0, 12.75, 12.3, 11.75, or 11.0.
Experiment with the dime and nickel and see if you can tell any difference.

Hmmz I might be reading on too much. To be honest at my level I didnt notice much diff on the 2 tip shape. Was hoping to hear if anyone experience the diff that was enough to make an impact on their play.

Others will come in and give you some of their opinions. The next time you are in the pool hall chalk up good and just hit the cue ball medium speed down table. Pick it up and look at the chalk mark you left on it just to get an idea of how much tip comes in contact with the cue ball.

Do this with a nickel and dime radius and see if you can tell the difference. Don't hit the cue ball too hard because you will get "chalk blowback" from your tip and it won't be accurate. The chalk spot will be "small".

DR. Dave thankfully have good paper worth reading as usual:

From experience i find flat soft , or medium hardness tip (very tiny curvature) drives the CB 100% straight when hit at center; perfect for combo shots.
For english shots, for hard tip i'd say dime, for soft tip nickel. But more critical is making tip/shaft direction 100% accurate, and the speed that the tip hits the CB. In a way similar to suction cup arrow (toy gun), if it goes side ways or low speed at the wall it will not stick!

I believe under 12.75 mm should be a dime, over 12.75 mm should be a nickel. I don't know where I read that but it makes sense to me. Johnnyt

I shape mine to a "penny" radius. Its right between a dime and a nickle in shape. You get the advantages of both. Don't know if that is true or not, but it works for me. I can draw a full table length....and then some. I can shoot a straight in finesse shot. And the tip I use holds its shape well. I bought a plastic tip tool, the stick type, warmed it up with a heat gun, and shaped it from a nickle to a penny. I actually used a penny for a template. Works great for me.

It be quite hard for me to get penny shape as I dont have the right tools to modify my tool haha. But I guess I have to figure out both. And I definitely should try to play more maybe when im at u guys lv I might be able to notice the diff.

I like a dime, but it really doesn't make a lot of difference to me.

Never tried one of those shekel or penny shaped tips...might be onto something there...

No difference what so ever. Whenever I put a new tip on, I shape it so it looks good, after a session or two of playing the tip takes its natural shape according to my playing style.

It might be my follow through but i seem to miscue more often with a dime shape .and I don't seem to get any less draw with the nickel either.just my personal experience. ....others I'm sure have had different experiences.....but even if I got a little less drae it's worth the lower amount of miscues and the lower amount of unwanted English a dime shape can give if not dead on with your stroke......and before anyone wants to say well its my stroke , I am actually pretty accurate at longer shots, but can see unwanted spin so we all know that creates throw

Is it just me that uses sand paper to shape a tip to what ever I like? I have no idea how severe the curvature of a dime or nickel is, but I like my tips curvature relatively subtle, and quite flat.
