Dining Conversion Top

So I succeeded in convincing my wife to put the table front and center in the living room (hurray! no more garage billiard time!), but she wants to get a conversion table top to use as an overflow room if we have a lot of guests over to eat. A) Is this a good idea? I don't mind doing it, as long as it doesn't damage the table. I assume a good top will protect the table and I will put a plastic and tablecloth over it for more protection. B) Can anyone recommend a good top to buy that doesn't break the bank? My local supplier has one for two grand, but I can't see spending that kind of money on this.

Thanks!

Well, don't let her read this!

Dining tops don't really work because of the table's skirts. Nowhere to put people's legs.

I guess if the top had a foot of overhang it might be different.

Isn't a pool table taller than a typical dining table? Might have to get some taller chairs too.

You can make something yourself, but how many guests do you expect.
A few folding card type tables can take care of that. Not to mention the pool table will be the most popular part of the evening.

No one will want the table covered up anyway. When ever we have guests for whatever reason they all end up in the billiard room, every time.

I did google, and I know there are a ton of options out there, but I couldn't quite make sense of it all (perhaps my mental faculties are not at their best when it comes to home decor). I think the height and room underneath will be ok (I pulled up a chair and sat down with it), and I have no doubt that immediately after the eating is done, the table will be restored to it's glorious true purpose and billiards will commence. Anyway, if anyone has experience or ideas, much appreciated.

I had a feast fit for a king at my buddy, Russian Paul's, house just this past sunday - there was cedar-plank salmon, killer steaks, lots of apps, and whisky and wine, all served on his pool table with conversion top.:thumbup:

Yes, it was a little taller than usual but not so much so that it was uncomfortable, at all.

it can be done. :)

can add pics later if you would like.

best,

Learn your history.

Conversion tables are a perversity dreamed up by Europeans.

The only Americans who ate on a billiard table were the Beverly Hillbillies.

I bought 12 adjustable, cheap but colorful office chairs.

With an small custom overhang and a shallow frame (Olhausen Centennial) knee-knocking is not a problem. It will seat 14.

I haven't finished it yet, but it will be made of four pieces that interlock and it will all be stored up under the table, out of sight.

One of these days, I'll get 'er done.
