A friend has a diseased maple tree in his front yard. It has been sick for many years .It is in Cleveland Ohio.
My question is, what is the likelyhood of this tree having any wood that might look nice in a cue but.
The tree is coming out soon anyway. Is it worth a look at the wood from it or not?

Disease does'nt mean bad wood, just sick tree. In fact, some of the best figure comes from diseased trees. The tricky part is milling & drying the wood in such way as to no let it crack beyond use. But, yeah, it's worth a shot.

will it be harvested in the winter?

Unless the tree is already quite dead, there may be too much moisture in the wood to deal with if you harvest in summer. I am in the Cleveland area as well. Are you planning to kiln dry the wood, or air dry? I have had wood air dried in a barn for ten years that still had a bit too much moisture in it. I wish you luck.

I will ask if he can put off felling the tree untill the winter then.
Thanks for the input.
