DIY veneers

Hello. I was wondering if anybody dyes their own veneers? I recently purchased a vacuum chamber setup and tried dying maple and poplar veneers but the dye did not penetrate completely. I left them in for over an hour. I am using Transtint dye btw. Any help would be appreciated.

Searing does, but I Kinda doubt he shares that info - could be wrong though

While I don't have Searing's exact process, I believe he leaves his veneers in for an average of 1274 days.

I believe that Paul Dayton dies his own hard wood veneers by the way.
