If you buy 10 cues from the same cuemaker and they all weight the same and have the same type of joint but different designs and wood will they all feel the same? Other than maybe the different wraps would you be able to feel or tell the difference when playing with them?

As an example: Would all the Southwest cues that have the same weight play and feel the same?

No. Wood density and characteristics are variable. Though any good cuemaker will use a lot of effort on quality control, some cues are better made than others.

I've had a Balabushka and 2 Helmstetters made by Adams Cues. They all seemed to play much different to me.

Bingo...

Musical instruments (Stradivarius comes to mind) are uniquely crafted pieces and like cues come from living wood tissue. Fiber directions, densities, and even mineral & moisture content can make a difference to the cue-sensitive player.

NO. Every piece of wood is a little bit different. You can get them close, but can never really guarantee that two _like_ cues will feel the same! Same goes for tips!

just more hot air!

I would say it depends on the maker. Some cuemakers strive to make all thier cues hit as similar as possible. Others use different woods, weight balancing, and other methods, to customize the hit on each and every cue. I have played with alot of different Foster cues, and depending on what they are made out of, they all hit slightly different.

You can't even get the same cue using the same butt with 10 different shafts from that cuemaker to feel the same, even if some of the shafts weigh identical to each other. (Which would depend on how much you play and how acute your sense of feel is)

no,,,because all woods resonate differently. however, i still believe there should be consistancy. stroud believes he can turn out consistancy in hit,,,and that is from years of experimentation and experience.

Additionally, the same cue can play differently in different environments, due to humidity, temperature, etc. and how they affect the materials used to build the cue.

I never have to 2 q's from the same maker play the same ...shaft wood is never the same ...
