Do you habitually line-up with the tip slightly off-center on cb..

...and suspect that this is causing you to miss by throwing the cb to one side or the other? You might try this--turn your head slightly so that the other eye is more in line with the sight path. It's too early to tell, but this may be helping my gigantic problem of putting right spin on the cb when trying to hit dead center.

You might want to check out Joe Tucker's Third Eye Stoke Trainer. It really is amazing for such a simple looking device. The Third Eye will force you to sight centre ball and the arms give you valuable feed back by telling you if you are steering to the left or right. It also helped me with a slight twist in my grip, I didn't really have to much of a problem with finding the center of the CB but it gives great feedback for a few posible stroking flaws.
Joe's Laser Trainer also helps sighting, line up the lasers on a straight in shot and then you can find the proper sighting picture. Joe talks about this in the into to his Laser Trainer video on his site. I've also been told about his new magic eye that I believe is to assist one in alignment. Joe has some of the most unique and helpful training tools out there, check them out!

After getting the Banking with the Beard, (2) DVD set, I try not to hit the CB dead center. According to the video, hitting the CB dead center can cause the CB to skip. Skipping happens occassionally enough on my table to where this was good advice to know.

What does "skip" mean?

With 860 cloth, clean balls and dry conditions I sometimes notice that the CB will slide (skip) after hitting it. In other words, the ball is skidding for a few inches across the cloth before it starts to roll naturally. This skipping can cause the ball to deflect sideways and/or produce a funny reaction on the object ball after impact.

The only reason the CB would "deflect sideways" is if you hit offcenter (with sidespin), and it would have nothing to do with sliding/skipping.

I don't know what "a funny reaction on the object ball after impact" means.

Don't believe everything you read.

Well considering the fact that Freddie is in the onepocket hall of fame I think id believe him before you.

If this guy says his table skids who are you to correct him? or freddie for that matter?

and BTW I have the opposite problem. I line up center ball and adjust at the last second. Johnny archer first pointed it out to me and im working on it now, since it wreaks havoc on my consistnecy.

I dont know about the majority but if i am cutting a ball to the right i am little off center to the left and vice versa. I think it is because i like to throw the ball slightly. Why i dont know.

Actually, yes, I know what you are talking about. Do you know the exercise of shooting the cue ball from the foot spot over the head spot and see if it comes back exactly over the foot spot? It's supposed to test whether you are hitting center ball and stroking straight. I have a tendency to have the cue ball come back a little slightly to the left of the foot spot - in other words I put a little left english on the ball without intending to. I think that comes from being strongly right eye dominant.

If I close my non-dominant eye while I am in the stance I find that I am ever so slightly hitting left. In fact, the cue itself appears to be aimed ever so slightly left as well. This explains why this exercise has always frustrated me.

However, I make 9 out of 10 long straight in shots, and usually I see no spin on the cue ball after it hits the object ball. If I see spin (on the measle ball) it's very very slight. So what am I unconsciously doing to correct my off-stroke?

I'm pretty sure I'm unconsciously straightening the stroke on the practice swings when I aim at a real ball, but somehow not doing it, or not doing it so well, during the exercise where I'm aiming just at the head spot.

Anyway, go to www.joetucker.net and take a look at his free video on his aim trainer. He talks about this very thing. I ordered his aim trainer - it's only 14.95 shipped - and will see what it tells me.

LOL. You're in for a lifetime of confusion if that's your criterion. Anyway, since we don't know what Freddie said exactly, it's pretty hard to "believe" him or not, isn't it?

Nobody said his table doesn't "skid". Try reading the posts again and get back to me if you have any comments about what was actually said.

I think you may want to look at that again. If you're hitting the cue ball off center, you're putting unwanted English on it. Do this every shot and and you'll miss, A Lot!

Might I suggest you get a high-speed video camera, do your own testing and share your results with us.

You might suggest it, but it's really your place to show us, since we're talking about your claims about what the CB does on your table. When can we expect to see your high speed video?
