Do you have a house bet?

I have been playing three cushion billiards exclusively, for a few years.

Those people don't bet directly (loser pays table time ($20+ per hour and sets last 60-90 min) and I am told it is thought insulting to the player and disrespectful to game to make it a financial pursuit.

These people also celebrate good play from an opponent.

These people also participate in a handicapping system that makes every match fair.

I have never seen an argument between players about their game.
I played a 15 or 20 point game of 3C for $1000 vs my mark, about 2005 or so. We were both 9 ball players, and each thought were stealing on the 3C table. No one in the pool room for 20 years had ever bet more than a few bucks besides our one game on the 3C table.

Just cheap fun, but pool like golf has to have at least a bit on the line.
nah, golf is different. Plenty of guys can play their best golf without anything on it. The pressure of a low round is real whether you have any money on it or not....it usually trumps whatever bets may be in play anyway. A rare few can play anywhere near their best game of pool for nothing.

I don’t gamble. I guess I’m lucky that I love the game that much that I’ll play every rack like it matters just because that’s who I am.

A sign in my gameroom! It doesn't have to be much (just enough to sting a bit).

I had a tad bad situation re: pool gambling at my house once and it became a no gambling zone the next day..
I agree with this generally. This is why I've got to really know someone before gambling with them at their house or mine. Somewhat moot point for me now, as I have no home due to recent events, lol. That said, I have a buddy that we typically play races to 3 onepocket for $100 or less at his place. But he and I are good sports and the money is second to pride.

Nice. Here's mine from my days as a racetrack employee. I could part with it if someone happened to be interested. It's a bygone era for me now. Note the photo above the sign. Not heard anything about J. Lee in a while. Hope her health is holding out, she has been through much unfortunately (photo @ DCC circa 2007 or thereabouts).

I have had a few that wanted to test me. Case harden is my .....uh form like the turtle.
"Whatever is comfortable ". Would be my cordial replay to the how much enquiring.
Having a $2 game go to 20 in steps prompted My longest break and win string of 17 ish. He quit both times. The second got a company check. 🤷‍♂️

Nice room.

I've found it's all in the personality. Some players with lots of cash can't play for 20 bucks others with next to nothing will wager their last dollar.

It seems that there is something more personal about playing pool as opposed to playing cards.

Most players have a threshold as far as betting and if they bet more than they are used to, their games usually don't improve.

There are outliers.....

As far as making up games, your ego will lie to you all day long, the money never lies...........
