a set of RULE for Conduct, and things like NO Cases on the Tables, No food, and Beverage in the playing Are, Nothing on the Tables but Pool Balls.

If you have such rules post do you throw out Rules violator with a First Mistake, or Warn them?

1 warning then the boot!

The only post I have in my room is:

Friendly reminder.
This is a poolroom,
where often times people are playing COMPETITIVE pool.
Please notice the poolplayers around you and show proper consideration!

While we have other rules they are not posted--as a rule (no pun intended) people don't read and the above post is my most important.

a daily battle.

We have tons of rules posted clearly to try and maintain human-like behavior. On the back tables where most bangers will congregate we even have the most basic rules actually laminated and posted on the table rails.

No Sitting on Tables, No Drinks on Tables, No Cigarrettes or Ashtrays on tables.

Its a constant fight to keep junk off the tables. We have coat racks and shelves EVERYWHERE in the room. Regulars always try and block off other tables with cases and coats etc to keep people off them. This way it blocks off 3 tables for the price of one. Every time they act like they are surprised other people want to play pool and apologize and move their stuff. Its a game I got tired of playing years ago. But everyone still does it. Seems kinda pathetic. Of course I have to be a total a**hole in my behavior just to get the point across for the 1000th time.

Our showroom has been nonsmoking for 3 years now and regulars will still light up walk around the showroom and yell "where are all the fvckin' ashtrays?" What can you do? You can't bar everyone. :(

There is no losing battle, only battles we have not won yet!!!!!!!!! In my room rules are posted, but new people are still reminded of my expectations concerning conduct. This is done in a very polite manner, however, there are no doubts at the end of our conversation.

To date I have only had to remove two individuals, and ban them permanently, drugs are something I will not tolerate in my establishment!!

Oh and by the way, I do not believe in calling the law, long term personal interaction will go a lot farther to wards achieving ones goals.

Have a good Day Bruce!!!!!!

I'm not an owner, but the place I go to has some. "No Whining" <-- this rule gets broken a lot :-) "No outside food/drink" <--- the regulars get take-out all the time, but the room does not have a kitchen "No Gambling" <--- umm...

There are a couple of standard "be polite, no food/drink on the tables," signs. I have not seen anyone get near tables with anything that can mess them up. The greatest danger is people using sticks to joust with and throwing the balls around the table. Just because the sign is there, does not mean anyone will change their behaviour untill you have to repremand them. The regulars tend to help out with educating people as well if we see things out of line.

Well I remember years ago at North Hollywood Billiards, in So. Cal. when Tip was the owner.

He kind of had a policy new people got pointed to his rules, they were ask if they understood the the or needed furthur explaination.

Serious rules violoation got you booted, not so serious violation got you a warning.

Tip was a fair man, had a wonderful rule Room, just like Bakers in Burbank CA.
