Do you imagine Pool in School?

Is this the "every kid deserves a participant medal" philosophy?

Sorry. I come from the world of survival of the fittest. If you don't succeed in a subject, try harder, or find another subject. We're encouraging failure as a result of the modern "child raising" tactics. I think the Asians have it right, and we have it wrong.

Don't be ridiculous. I've been a competitor my entire life. I'm talking about oppression -- the type that certain communist countries inflict on their athletes. I've seen it first hand and it isn't pretty.

Awesome!

Actually funny timing for this thread, my son just told me a few days ago he is talking to his gym teacher about getting pool tables in for them. He is going to talk to the guidance counselor about it, his goal is to teach other kids about the game, one of the things he wanted to do when we got our home table was do instructional videos for kids.

The fact that he loves the game enough to share it is warm and touching.
Kudo's and help if you need it!

Chicago people know that Golf has The Chick Evans Scholarship for caddies-

I foresee this being a likelihood for pool in the future.

If you can imagine Pool/Billiards in school- tell them what you envision!

And educator with a book. A coin op table, 25 cents a game.
Coinage pays for new annual cloth, tips, glue, cues and chalk.
Each student has a task to maintain equipment.
Table will be covered after hours with an enclosed plywood cover.
The table will also be located and utilized in the arts & crafts room or???
Hold classes after school at least 4 hours per week.
Have Ten max players for one teacher, with 5 to qualify for regionals.

Use the WBT format.

Yes I do. I believe pool taught properly develops tons of analytical skills that can translate to life. Also it's an inexpensive sport to have in schools. It requires little dedicated space and comes with low equipment and maintenance costs.

Not even close. The stumbling block is the kids themselves. The discipline problems will ruin it for the kids that would want to use it.

You could have the best people, with the right experience, and all the contacts in the world. You're dealing with a generation of kids that don't seem to have the same respect for people/things as when I was growing up. It will work in a society where the kids have the proper respect for the things they're given. Asia, yes. Third world, yes. Because the kids would be thankful for having something they'd otherwise never have access to.

I disagree and for good reason Shawn.
Your knowledge and expertise in the world of computer / Internet / streaming world is excellent.
Education is one of my domains having spent over 15 years teaching.
Poorly behaved children are EVERYWHERE all over the world! There will always be a NEED to provide quality alternative routes to EDUCATION SUCESS.
One thing is guaranteed throughout global education just like with global defence - BILLIONS WILL be spent on it. Pool just needs to come up with a strategy to get a piece of the pie. And that's NOT easy.

I'm guessing most, if not all of you, haven't been involved in schooling, or the educational system. You seem to think that 100% of kids WANT pool in their schools. Stop trying to force your agendas onto the youth of this world. If someone can make a case for why pool should be included in an educational system, aside from "well, I really like pool, and I think kids should play pool, too", I'm all ears. But I'd rather kids actually learn something that will be meaningful in their life, rather than pool. There's no euchre classes at school. No dart boards, either. No lawn bowling. I understand this is a forum for pool, but schools are having enough problems these days without trying to slide billiards into their curriculum.

This makes more sense Shawn :thumb:

Like I've written previously on other threads. Education is a closed off sector and will only endorse those who embrace education and only education. Can pool make it to the curriculum? Sure it could, but it would need to be fronted by real educators who only see the educational benefits and not the promotional benefits, which is why the 'pool junkie' could not make head-row in the education system.

you cant even carry a cue on an airplane, no way schools will allow it.

And, as mentioned above, the balls will be stolen the first day at most high schools

:angry::angry:

Do pupils carry Javelins into school?
Of course not - Education would be responsible for supplying students with all the necessary equipment - Do students rob footballs or hockey sticks?
Education - Education - Education

It shows how little you know about boosters and sports programs at universities. Ever noticed the big teams that recruit the big players, and spend all of that money you're talking about WEAR THE SAME SHOES? The teams are sponsored. And there are these people called Alumni. They contribute to their schools. And boosters. Trust me, the athletics program at a good Division 1 school pays its own bills, and with TV rights and tournament game monies, they're also putting money back into the school's educational programs.

Would agree with this ^^^. I know little of how the American Education system works as I am not American :thumb: but there are many strands to how an institution operates and raises funds. It's not just tax payers / government money.

Thank you for your posts!

All said.
If Europe and Asia can have Pool entwined into their educational systems then why can't the USA?

My point exactly-
Thank you for your optimism!

You prove the contrary :)

History/tradition/video clips/commercials/bar scenes/liquor/and some pros in Tees with raggedy pants sets a tone. As does dew rags in the ghetto.
NEXT....toss in one of the Greatest movies of all time ''Hustler'' with the broken hands.
Then finish it up with ''Color of Money''....NOW the mindsets of the American public are Booted Up....and the expression...''are U a pool shark'', is the drool we get from the 99%er's. Big Surprise?

Ironically, it's a big reason why many of us here won't drag our children to the pool room every day.
