Do you like 15-Ball Rotation

I think many room owners are missing the boat not promoting rotation in the form of all the types of money games you can make out of it. I would watch my two rotation tables like a hawk. If I saw a player get out of the game I'd find another player in the room to take his place, or jump in myself until someone wanted in. Then I'd bow out. Those two tables were my top priority. Any room owner that has or had a golf game going on a snooker table 8 or more hours a day knows what I'm talking about. It keeps the lights on at the very least. And don't forget what those players buy while there. Johnnyt

The room that I started playing at always had a 5-10-15 ring game going on. That was how everyone learned to play, we'd get in the ring game with the old guys and play until closing time or 'til the money ran out. 9-ball was almost never played there.

I agree. In 8 or 9 ball, games go fast. Players lose track of time with Rotation to the advantage of the room owners. Time and Motion studies are for efficiency. You don't want that. In the pool room, Time and Motion is done for inefficiency!

In the biggest pool hall chain in Manila, bathrooms are located at least a minute away from the farthest table. Players are made lazy to rack the balls because there are employees who rack them. On a per hour basis, these idle times add up. Waiting a minute for an expert racker is acceptable. Many times, this break lures in stories, discussions, and arguments that end way after the rack had already been set. Pavlov, actually.

The total number of waiting minutes in the room can pay for a day's wage. And you don't want any big clocks around to remind the players that their wives are waiting for them at home.

Awful? It's economics. Some "unethical" fringes for those heroes who operate rooms and help keep the game alive.
 
15-Ball Rotation is a great game to be played.

A good strong break shot can get the game going, but making the first 5 balls, can be nullified, by making the 15. There is so much traffic, most times the breaker doesn't get to the double digit balls. There is a lot of safety play in this game & it is a real "FUN HOUSE" to play Kelly Pool with you gang.
 
The name of the rotation game I described in thread #18 is what we called money-ball. I don't believe that is the correct name for it. Does anyone know what is the correct name for it? QB shoots from the kitchen on all fouls. we played both ways...call-shot and no call. Always have to hit lowest ball first. Johnnyt
 
I called it "Pay Ball" one time on here and got several people telling me it's not pay ball. I have a hunch it's called different things in different parts of the country. Thanks. Johnnyt
 
rotation

when i first started playing pool, rotation and snooker was the only games we played. no 8ball or 9ball. i think it made me a better player in my time as pn rotation you shoot shape . and in rotation. just my thoughts!!! STICK:confused: :confused: :confused:p.s. im 70yr

Hey Johnnyt,

I believe the game your referring to is known today as "Chicago" although, it's played here in New Jersey a little different than you described;

Played with four people.

Money Balls = 1,5,8,10,13,15 plus points totaling 61= 7 ways to get paid.

Say I make the 1 (money Ball) and miss somewhere before the 5 (money Ball) the next player runs to and makes the 5, we now become partners for that game and you can now also play safe or you can push out (although a push out is considered the first foul) if the shot is given back to you, you must make a legal hit or the other set of partners receive ball in hand because of two consecutive fouls.

Once partners are established Players A & B vs. Players C & D;
After Player A shoots and misses, Player C shoots till he/she misses, then Player B shoots till he/she misses, then Player D shoots, etc.

If for example, I made the 1 & 5 then the next player makes the 8 we would become partners and so on.

If you as Player A for example should happen to make all the money balls as well as gather enough points equalling 61 then you would be paid $7.00 by each of the other three participants if you were playing a $1.00 a way, this scenerio is referred to as a goon (don't know how that name came about) here in my neck of the woods.

Alot of fun and some incredible shotmaking & positioning opportunities.

I hope I described it accurately enough to understand!

Yes it's about the same game except for the two extra money balls (8&13) and the ball in hand part. No BIH in my game. All fouls shoot out of the kitchen. Johnnyt
