I was just wondering how many people here play and leagues, in other post we had some people snubbing league play. So I just wanted to know if which there are more of. Lets here some good or bad league night stories while your at it to keep the post going!
 
I always thought the same thing, but never was too concerned to make a post. It always seems like poolhall players think league players cant play a lick. I play in a "for fun" league, no money at all, just a night out with friends and some good competition. It kills some time and is just a good night out to drink. I do know however that we have a dozen or so players that play as good if not better than 99% of the players in the pool halls, but these players never go there. Many pool hall players have joined a team to hustle money from the league bums only to find out that they got more than they wanted from someone they never seen in a pool hall. I know on my team alone you had better play A speed or better to gamble with the top players. If you can do that you can win some good cash, mine included. Players come from all over, talent is not reserved for those who play on 9 footer with siminous cloth in a pool room.

Use to play in leagues, APA, BCA and a City 'In House' league, enjoyed my time with each.

I started running my own league and tournaments and have enjoyed them even better.
 
Would "other" mean other leagues or other answers? What if the answer to the question, "Do you play in a league" is "no"? Does that go under "other", too?
 
I play league 2 nights a week. VNEA (Wal-Mac) on Tuesdays and CCS (ACS) on Thursdays.

I'm involved in running the CCS league, and it's by far the best deal going in our city($8 a night). 2 seasons, if you join during the summer season your league fees($25) are paid for the year, if you join in the fall, they're only good till spring.

We run a singles league as well where players play 15 games against 1 opponent each week ($16 a night) and your $25 league membership is good for teams and singles.

Our league members are also eligible to play in our 8 ball tour which is run once a month at different halls around the city were players can earn cash prizes each tournament as well as earn points towards a paid entry and hotel at the western canadian 8ball championships.

This is a players league run by players for the players. All money collected either goes to the prize pool, green fees or running the league. Nobody gets paid out of the admin money.
 
I enjoy the social aspect of playing apa. I have met many nice people. There are some aspects I would change, but the strength of most leagues is that people are brought together.
 
You forgot the choice, NO, never have in my almost 62 years.

I've been a part of APA, but I'm not currently playing with them. My experience was so short, I have no established handicap as of yet. I was also in an 8-ball league in college of my design. Our handicapping system was simple but did its job rather well, I think. We based it all on make/miss percentage discluding safeties. The percentages were tiered according to the top league players and downward.

I'm currently playing in ACS.

I have not played APA(9 ball) for many years.

I once enjoyed my BCA traveling 8 ball league immensely but now I just play an in-house BCA league to qualify for regional/nationals.

Really do not get into league much anymore.

I play on 9 footers and 7 footers,I compete in tourneys mostly on bar tables.Most of the top players in this area play equally well on BB and 9' tables.Sometimes an 'A' player will try to weasel his way onto a league team in hopes of gaining some easy action from unsuspecting teammates and or opponents.

In this area it would be nice to see an in-house money league on 9 footers,an APA Masters league (or similar) would be something I would enjoy also.
 
Home Town League

I am very fortunate to be playing in a small league that is put on locally every winter begining in September by our small local pool room.

The owner runs 2 seperate divisions. A top gun or tier A division on Monday nights and the slightly less competetive division that I am in on Tuesday nights.

This is a new pool room and currently he is not sanctioned with any official league i.e BCA, CCS, APA or VNEA which is too bad as we as players don't qualify to enter any national or similar events. His plan is to pick a league to sanction with once he is assured his leagues will consistantly be a hit with players.

The reason why I like league night is simple. All the teams/player's are all great people. It's more of a social night out with everyone as opposed to just a night to play pool. I look forward to every Tuesday night to play my four games. Jason (the owner)) put's on one hour of free pool for league members prior to the start of the night for free practice.

Simply a great environment!!

I play APA 8 ball and 9 ball
I also play BCA 8 ball and 9 ball but only singles...because I don't always enjoy watching others. I use the APA nights as my social pool time.
The BCA time as my serious time.
Used to play in TAP, VIP and a few local leagues. Also play in some local tournaments as they come up and I have time.
 
I used to play 8 & 9 ball APA leagues. It really helped in the transition from a social player to a serious player, and I learned quite a bit, but I ended up stopping as i think it was starting to dent my game.

I now run singles straight pool leagues here in the Twin Cities, and isn't like the team leagues at all.
 
league's pretty fun! this is my second season playing and i'm havig a blast. it's a good chance to compete without too much pressure. you'll meet a lot of good people (good at heart not so much on the pool table)

there're some tallented players but mostly it's just people having a good time

make a good programmer because you did not include all options for answers.

You forgot 'VNEA' and 'ACS' for leagues, 'Inhouse' for a an inhouse league, and 'No' for an answer for those that do not play in a league.

What do yo consider "A" speed?
 
Two nights a week VNEA. One night is a "Masters" league. The other a better than bangers league. Naturally, I look forward to the tougher competition, but everyone has a good time and we all enjoy the night out, the drinks too, and best of all the friendly competition. On my team, we range in age from a young active duty Marine of about 25 to me....57.

I wish there was a 14.1 league near me but the nearest one is 40 miles away. Next year I plan to start one ala 14and1.com By the way, I see many of the same faces both in league and in the poolroom...Tom

My county had a great independent league for over 35 years that had more than 20 teams as recently as 6 years ago.

Mostly due to DWI inforcement and one of key taverns closing the league folded this year. The resession was the last straw.

With fewer folks out at the bars, bar owners with multiple tables want the leagues in house it seems.

I also quit The APA and helped start a new BCA league. Its going to be great after it gets established. Lots of great folks and a few that play very strong. BCA rules and the handicap system are SO much better than the sandbagging, nit picking, 23 rule making, coaster marking the pocket BS APA.... but thats for another Bash the APA thread.
