Do you train with a coach? Why not, if so?

Hey guys,

I am curious how many of you train with a coach and what's your opinion on the subject.

1. Do you feel one is necessary to improve your game?

2. What are your strategies to get better over time?

3. How do you work on your mental game?

My opinion
(1) is that a coach is a very useful tool to improve your game. Not just because of the technical expertise he can offer, but also for the mentality you enter the lessons with. When you know you have 2h practice with a trainer, you will go into a state of mind of learning, listening, paying attention and focusing on being a good student. More so, you are making a statement with certainty that you want to raise the quality of your game (for example, instead of cursing the game or blaming luck/head aches/weather/noise/and so on).

2. Drills for stroke/pocketing/position/tangent line. Weekly tournaments. Will start money play next year.

3. Reading books about sport psychology.
I will also start doing meditation and visualization techniques.

Cheers,
Alex

Don't train with a coach because there isn't one available.

Would like to attend a few sessions with Bert Kinister, Tor Lowry of Zero X, Earl Strickland, Little Joe or Mike Sigelbut they are too far away and would be very expensive.

I am sure a good coach would really help. Years ago I would occasionally catch a show on the Canadian TV channel from Windsor, On before cable was available soit was hit or miss. There was a snooker instructor giving lessons and I would swear that the student was a young Karen Corr. He would have her perform a shot and then correct everything she was doing wrong. The whole show could be on that one shot.

The best coaching

Im back to playing One Pocket which is very competitive for me. I find the best coaching Ive ever gotten was when you have a couple of weeks to digest and fix a problem between sessions. One Pocket is sort of like that. Its tiered. You find out what youre doing and you then you have to apply a fix to get to the next level and it only happens a tier at a time.
