While I also shoot with an OB-1 shaft, the one I really like was made by Schmelke for me; it's a solid maple 11mm shaft with a 15 inch pro taper. What I like about it especially is the hit, very sweet... Plus it's quite a low deflection shaft too, about the same as the OB-1, at least that's the way it plays to me. It'll spin the cue ball just as well, and is more powerful than the OB-1. Why that is I'm unsure, but it is definitely more powerful, and that must be accounted for.
I have another really low deflection shaft that is even better than the Schmelke 11 mm. It's about 10.25 mm, and the shaft wood is somewhat denser than the Schmelke and it is more powerful than the Schmelke. The taper may be part of the reason for that, but the ping sound it produces is higher pitched and it stops vibrating more quickly.
Any of these 3 shafts are just fine for me; the commonality that exists between them is they are all low deflection shafts. And yes, I definitely play better with them than with a "normal" shaft.
