Being an advocate of using the edge of the cue shaft to align shots, on some longer shots after aligning, and on softer strokes, while down on the shot and watching the CB on it's path to the OB, there are times, along the CBs path, when it almost looks like it will either miss the OB all together, or hit it so full that there won't be any cut at all. But, right when the two balls make contact, it is in perfect alignment, and the shot goes in.
Now, what I described above, can happen to me on even 30 or 40 degree angle cuts, it doesn't have to be a thin cut.
I think our eyes, generically speaking play many tricks on us while we play pool and look at the angles and colors and depths of objects.

On an after thought ..... I thought maybe it would be fun to see if anyone specifically can relate one of these effects to pool in some manner. If so post it up and we can take a peek.
For example, here is one that may be of value in terms of practicing "focus" Focus on the center and make all the violet spheres disappear and have only the green one remaining and rotating in a circle.
