Does Andy Quinn (from the St Louis MO area) compete anymore?

I am curious if Andy Quinn competes anymore?

I remember he was known as one of the best players in St. Louis (back when I was growing up in the 90's), and I seen him play a few times (back in the 90's) in Cape Girardeau, and he was really great.

I remember him betting against the ghost (in a race to 10 or 11 I think) in Cape Girardeau, and I think he beat the ghost pretty easily (on this really tough 9 foot Brunswick ,with shimmed pockets I think).

Anyway, I wonder if he still plays, and as good as he did back in the 90's?

I wonder if he is (or was) in the same league as some of the top regional players (like Chip Compton or Justin Bergman to name a few examples)?

I never had the opportunity to see him play much, so I am just curious how good he played, and if his game would (or did) compare with some of the top regional players of today?

I remember going to this big annual tournament at a pool hall called Ride the Rail (in St. Louis), and they did not allow any AA (double A) players to play in it, and he was not allowed to play in it (either because he was a AA player, or because he had won it in a previous year, or for both reasons).

Anyway, I am just curious if he still competes?

I haven't heard of Andy going anything the last few years. The last time I saw him was a MO State 8Ball tournament several years back. I've heard he was managing a sports bar out in west St. Louis county. watchez may know more about what he's up to.

I found this video of Andy playing Johnny Archer in an exhibition match.

I see he still plays very good. I just wonder how good he was back in his prime. I only heard stories about him (when I was a kid back in the 90's), but never really got to see him play much in person.

Andy doesn't play much anymore besides a pool league here and there. He can still play but realized that the road for a pool player is a tough one. Also, with pool being pretty much dead in St Louis (I know, I know Brendan Sullivan there is still action at times somewhere), there isn't much for a top pool player to do around here.

Back when Andy played, it took a top player to beat him and even then they might not like it. Two time jr national player of the year. Won the BCAPL Open division when it had over 1500 players in it and full of other top players. I don't think anyone got past 2 on him in a race to 5 that year. Won the Missouri State 9 Ball when he was 15 (maybe 16) but I know I gave him a ride home that year when he won it. This is when there were a lot of real players in the field.

For the money, there is no one that I could name that played at their highest gear, more consistently than Andy. He has a great win % and money never bothered him.

For character, there is no one that is higher. Andy has never dumped a match in his life and it was never even a discussion. He is one of four pool players alive that I would put my money on.

That exhibition match against Archer was fun - it was a few years back. Andy just got up there and beat him easily.

Anyways, I think Andy would be open to some entertainment to playing on one of the bar tables where he works. Beyond that, he has shown no interest in playing any pool. He has more of an interest in going to the movies every Sunday night like we have for the past few years.

I played Andy on the losers side of Midwest 9 Ball event in Cahokia back in August 2009. That is probably the only match in my life I enjoyed losing. He was an absolute pleasure to play, and actually gave me some pointers on some things I was doing wrong at that time. I would love to see Andy compete again, the pool world needs more stand up guys like him around.
