Do any of you collect instruments? My father recently gave me two guitars and a banjo. He has an immense collection of instruments and gave me the ones he no longer uses, to basically keep, sale, whatever. I tinkered with the guitar at one point, but they will just sit here.

One guitar is a Billy Grammer guitar. Bill handmade guitars in Nashville during the 70's. It is a flat top accoustic. Is comfortable to play (from an amateurs perspective), and looks very nice. It has a hardshell case. I know he paid $400 for it brand new in the like 1975'ish.

The second instrument is a two year old American Fender Stratocaster, 1958 model. Olympic white, white pickguard, and maple neck. This guitar is like I said, practically brand new. My dad bought it, and it mostly sat on the guitar stand. This one is really nice, and if I had to keep one, this would be it....I think this guitar retails around $1400 brand new, but since it was FREE to me...I'm going to give someone a good deal on it (or sell it on ebay). It will come with a nice Fender gig bag.

Last but not least is the most interesting item. It is a 1975 Baldwin ODE Model C Banjo. It is in great shape. Very fancy (I think) with tons of MOP inlays in the neck, MOP tuning pegs, etc. It has a hardshell case as well. I think he paid close to $500 for this one brand new. I'm not sure what the value is now...

If anyone is interested in any of these, let me know and I'll send you all the pics you want. I know some of you are musicians. If anyone has any idea how I can find out what the value is, that would be great to.

OH.....and if anyone is interested in trading a cue for an instrument, hit me up. You NEVER know.

Thanks for your time.

Matt...

There used to be a site called 'Everly's' I believe. They deal with vintage stringed instruments of all kinds. They would be a good source for some info on the older guitar and banjo. I'll try and find their URL, if I can, I used to get their catalogs all the time.

Banjo

I can help you a little on the banjo, I think the ODE banjo was a predessor to OME. The guy who started ODE I "think" sold out to Baldwin, and they used his name on their banjos for a short time. You can go to www.omebanjos.com and I think they have a company history.

As far as value, not sure that the Baldwin ODE's are worth, I know the original ODE's fetch a nice price. I would recommend listing it or inquiring at the Banjo Hangout, which is www.banjohangout.org

The site that Lisa mentioned is Elderly music, which is www.elderly.com, they sell used and "vintage" instruments of all kinds, so they may be able to help you on the guitars as well. I don't know much about guitars beyond a few chords, one too many strings for me :)

Hope this helps?

Here is the URL to Elderly Instruments. They can at least do some sort of appraisal for you if you send them some pictures and information:

Hi Matt,

I'm interested in the Stratocaster (cash or cues). Please email me at PSwan4@aol.com with pricing, or anything in the cue/case line you might be interested in.

Thanks!

Steve

Hey everyone. My box is cleaned out. I have a brand new digital camera and I'll be posting some pics. Please feel free to shoot me an email as well: Matthew.Kimbro@gmail.com
Thanks again for the great information!

i'm not sure of the date that cbs bought fender, but if it's before 1958 your strat is worth far more than 1400.00.
i have a 69 fender jazzmaster that has some of the finish wearing off.i've turned down 3,000.00.
your strat would be worth more imo.
