Does anyone else think ....

... that it is almost sacrilege to pay $500 for a carbon fiber shaft and put it on a beautiful birds eye maple shaft with expensive inlays? I admit I'm old and old school but really??? All the hype about the most accurate shaft and blah, blah blah but really isn't this just blaming the arrow instead of the archer??? When I see Efren start using one then maybe, just maybe I'll change my view. Interested in my fellow AZBer's viewpoints.
If you load up with a lot of L and R spin when you play, as most higher skilled level players do, you know the advantages a LD shaft can offer you in terms of less guesswork regarding how much to compensate in your aiming process for CB deflection/squirt. The Revo shaft is clearly the leader in low deflection. For many, it does not matter what their cue looks like, feels like, or sounds like when they stroke the CB - they are only concerned with results.

I am not adverse to new technology....I come from golf.
...but I have asked on here what does one of these shafts do that my wood shaft can’t.
.....I have not been impressed by the responses.

1) Better energy transfer than wooden shafts have (easier draw for example)
2) Much lower deflection (i know its squirt but whatever..) at high speed shots = much less variable when aiming shots with side spin, less guessing =) higher confidence
3) I dont buy much into ding-less propaganda but having shaft that wont deteoriate through the time (my experience is that LD wooden shafts start to play measurably worse after 2-3 years of daily use as the wooden fibers start to break) is worth consideration
4) Revo shafts (carbon shafts in general) are MUCH smoother than any wooden shaft can be and supposedly it will stay that way for many years to come. And trust me - my shafts have always been the slickest of them all, I am kinda obsessed with shaft smoothness.:p

Does this answer your questions?

While that may be true and even if there is a microscopic difference in accuracy you are talking about pros. For $500 do you think this translates to the regular Joe, whether a top shortstop or just a C+ to B+ player?

The difference in accuracy is definitely not microscopic but honestly? I wouldnt recommend Revo to anyone who doesnt have very solid fundamentals as such player wouldnt be able to use all that power Revo can give you, it could punish you actually if cb is not hit the way you want to hit it ;)

I....I’ve only hit a few shots with one of these shafts...but I’ve never hit with a cue that
can match my Szamboti...cue ball six inches from the end rail..ball in the jaws at the
other end...I could draw two lengths of the table...and I’m not as strong as you.

2....Deflection is a two-way street...I call this effect ‘push’ and ‘massé’...for me, LD
massés too much...they threw out the baby with the bath water on this one...
...try a thin cut, table length, with slow inside english, you have to aim to miss the ball
altogether....I call those situations ‘airhooks’....
My cues are also ‘user friendly’....if I hit a long straight shot center ball, and get a little
unintentional english on it, I still tend to make the shot.

3....My ‘68 Joss is 50 years old, still straight with the original shaft..one of my snooker
cues has a 150 year old lake wood shaft, still straight after 30 years.
...26 year old Richard Black....still straight

4...My shafts have been conditioned over the years with the oils from my bridge hand...
...I need that feel for my touch.

All my pool shafts have been retapered, ( caromish) to around 12 mm...biggest one is 12.2
...I call them LD with heart...but I can make them deflect when needed.

If it isn't expensive to many people, then many people would own a Revo shaft.

......but........... many people do and many pro players use them as well, sponsored or not. And if Predator could keep up with the demand there would be many more using them.

People spend way more on similar items that they really don't need also. Watches, knives, RC cars, dinner .... you name it.

I might call it sacrilege, but I might not sell my pie laminated maple shaft to have a REVO... or anything else.

Sure, every player is unique and has unique set of needs ;) And you are right, I should correct my first and third statement - Revo has better energy transfer than any LD wooden shaft on the market and the problem of wooden shafts getting worse through the time is also of the realm of LD wooden shafts :)
As for the deflection - I prefer firm stroke as I grew up on not-so-good equipment where babying a shot meant a brutal roll and/or coming up short with my position in most cases :D So thats why you wont see me play many soft shots (your airhooks for example) apart from 14.1 where you can come up with stop-shot sequence more often than not ;)And thats why my power game benefits from LD shafts more than the game of a player who prefer soft touch (nothing wrong with it, its just a preference).
As for the shaft slickness - I know that some people prefer having their shaft conditioned by oils from his/her hands, but for me such shaft is almost unplayable as it prevents me to stroke with maximum "freedom". I even "taught" some players to draw the cueball just by cleaning their shaft :D So go figure ;)
I said it couple of times - Revo is definitely NOT for everybody, it is "just" a tool. But for some players that tool can unlock those few % of performance that they are lacking to get results they want. Of course others may like the look of the carbon shaft and some players have the feeling of accomplishment that they have something new what others dont have, nothing wrong with that I guess. ;)
