Does chalk have a shelf life???

Long ago and far away in the 60's, and when we were all not overly educated by the Internet, it seems that every Anniversary I played on had a few cubes of National Tournament Chalk sitting on the rails.

So, just for giggles, I'd like to locate a box or so. There was just something magical about that great looking red wrapper with the bright yellow printing.

Of course I'll have no way of telling its condition, or how it may have been stored.

If you're old enough, what are your recollections of how it compares to today's Blue Diamond or Masters which I currently use? I thought it was pretty good stuff, but again, this was before I became edjumicated via the Internet forums.

I'd also appreciate any input regarding the possibility of resurrecting a decades old batch of chalk.

Thanks a million for your thoughts and time!!!

I got a big box of Masters I bought 35 years ago. Still works. At the time I thought it would last me a year or two.

I bought some of that Japanese chalk that a guy was flogging on AZ.Hard as a rock and complete garbage, Yet I have 2 boxes of Pre Flag that is good as the day it was made, other than the wrappers being faded a bit.

I personally never liked the stuff. Seemed dry and gritty to me without good adhesion. When the room I played at switched to it I always brought my own cubes of Master.

Find member barking4action on here, he is selling a ton of old chalk, I think there may be some of what you pictured. A bunch of the older chalk had some molding issues, not sure if that is a shelf life or just being stored incorrectly.

I had a couple old masters that got so hard,it was like chalking with a brick.
Besides that I have a box of old National Chalk exactly like the OP pictured
and is some really awesome stuff.

Thank you for the lead. I've PM'd this party. :wave2:

If the chalk gets too hard, you can try exposing it to some humidity or moisture. I think putting it beside the shower works.
