You hear all the typical comments in pool; I killed him, I tortured him, ect. ect. ect. ... To me this type of thnking doesnt even belong in pool (ok maybe 1 pocket). Is it not about personal execution. Isnt the best thing ever said about the game "PLAY THE TABLE, NOT THE PLAYER"

The only time I start to care about the other player is if I get a sh***y leave after he misses, over and over. But really thats me making the luck a personal thing.

I like Earl's take on the mental game "I shoot holes in you !!" and "If you
do win a game or match you just got lucky !!" This of course is said and
felt with alot of passion .Seems to me you are playing the table ,the other
player, enviroment ,and most of all yourself .So no "just play the table does
not get it for me" but to each his own.

yeah you play the table and not the player. i've heard that before but that's not how i look at it when i'm at the table. watching 2 guys at the pool table is like watching a dog fight. it is a fight! if you're playing for something you've been challenged and you better fight hard if you want to walk away with it

Your approach is too draining...
Play with an even keel, not too high, not too low,taking good rolls with the bad.
There's nothing you can do about what happens when the other guy is at the table, so why waste physical and mental energy over it?
You must be exhausted after even a short session.

I've tried that but when i miss my table refuses to shoot. I thought maybe it was the crappy house cue so i handed my table my cue...my table still refused to "get in the game" so to speak.

Yes because you are playing two opponents, the table and another person. That person is trying to limit your options, outplay you and out think you. So you have to feel like you won or lost against another human being when you play. Otherwise pool competition would just be about playing the ghost.

And you can torture someone in pool, you can out play them by laying down killer safes, coming with big shots at crucial moments, jumping up and firing in that long bank after their push like it was a hanger......

You can make them feel helpless.

I once played Jesse Bowman and got the last four. Jesse played so good against me that I got scared to shoot. Looking at a simple three ball out I looked at my road partner and said "my arm feels like jelly". I literally felt like nothing I did mattered at all in the outcome. He tortured me.
