Does pro pool need more team competitions?

Yep, that sums it up. I love playing Scotch Doubles with my dad who's level is way below mine. We have good chemistry and we even manage to beat players who are both around my level (but at least stronger than my dad). I often have to play some pretty difficult shots after him to get shape on the next ball again, but it's a fun challenge and there has never been a bad word between us.
That’s a very good point, chemistry plays a huge roll in scotch. When it’s good-oh boy it’s fun. If it’s not, then it’s not too much fun for either player. Great point

I think if you had the right match up and story it could sell. Here in the midwest we did a Battle for the Border, a mosconi cup style match with pro level and high skilled amateurs. It drew a nice crowd the entire time and the crowd was invested. Why? Because it was Ohio vs Michigan, which is the biggest college football rivalry. Fans of either state will always be interested in anything Ohio vs Michigan so I believe that added to the crowds they had for the event.
Exactly. The 'rah-rah' factor plays a huge part in matches like this. They did a Tex-Okla pool deal recently that was fairly successful.

$50/man scotch 1p is a great game. Rotate partners every so many games. Back when 'chemical warfare' was more common some of these games could go on a couple days. Good times. ;)

Crowd involvement is the best way to create enthusiasm in pool. The Mosconi Cup is an example. The Michigan vs Ohio Border Battle is a great start. An 'East Of' and 'West Of' the Mississippi would be really interesting to watch on TV. Just think of how many TEAM makeup variations could be used.

Have an 'Aiming Forum' team match. THAT i would pay to see. CTE'rs vs. GhostBall'rs. Would be epic. ;)

Any rivalry “organic or staged” sells more seats, attracts more viewers than just a gave/match/event.

That’s the promoters job. Dana White with UFC has done a brilliant job. I used to know him, lost touch when I moved to LA from Vegas and he got super busy. I knew him when UFC was relatively small.

Create a reason for a rivalry, develops personality's and something the fans have a reason to love or hate and the rest falls into place

Races to 4 with milk drinkers(not the players fault) isn’t gonna get it done. It’s great for the sports book because they have 100’s of matches to put on the board for action with race to 5 round robin “shows”. Compared to Mcup where there are very few matches to bet on. The books are what will drive pool events. Sadly the short form races suck to watch. What’s a come back?

Enough of this, I’m going to the dentist. Better than cloths shopping.

No complaints

No matter how you look at it, it is still just pool. Regardless the format it has a very limited appeal. If the intent is to draw new eyes, nothing will really work. If it is just to entertain current pool fans then yes, it could be interesting. I can't say I have ever any results if the Mosconi Cup reported in any media outlets. No one cares about pool.

You have this al180 degrees backwards.

The easiest pool you’ll ever play is scotch with a stonger partner.

Just make the ball, don’t sweat shape. That’s the stronger guys problem. Get him to the good side of the ball & let him do the work to get you back in line.

You will play the strongest game of your life because you have 50% of the shots being handled by someone better than you.

Don’t worry about pin point shape, just “don’t miss” and get to the good side. Way less pressure on you.

It’s a frame of mind.

So true. My wife and I sometimes play Snooker ‘doubles’ with another couple. She likes it not only as a social activity but less pressure on her to pocket many balls…her game improves a notch. Even if she flubs a shot I sometimes will fib and say ‘ that’s ever better’.😉

If you type "pool" in Google search, what do you get?
Yes most search results about swimming pool.

Go to any dictionary site , type "pool" , the pool game definition is so far down the page

In Youtube if you type "pool" in search box and sort by View count, first page results are mostly about swimming pool :ROFLMAO:https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=pool&sp=CAM%3D

Is this surprising in any way?

I completely agree with this. I played a scotch doubles event late last year with a partner significantly lower than my level. I cant even begin to count how many times I said "just make the ball and I will figure it out" or they would ask me about breaking a ball out and I would tell them "just let me worry about that". It was fun and challenging. I also found that it helped my singles game because I had to be more focused on where I left the cue ball.

Nope, I think they need an organized feeder system of semi-pro level, upcoming players.
Me I'd do this.
Break up the country into states, & in some areas group states together.
TX on it's own.
All American Islands as one rotate final event to ea Island.
So you'd have maybe 30 annual National events.
Combine the top 2 from each end of yr state final and award each player an, all expense paid entry/room to a Matchroom Event.

I fully agree with every word above💪

That’s what makes scotch good. When the weaker player realizes and accepts he’s the weaker-ego on the shelf. When that happens-the magic happens.

I speak from experience

Here's one match.
Thanks. I watched a good chunk of that - I actually rather enjoyed it.

I don't know what it is, but back when pool was on ESPN, I simply could not get enough of it. Don't know if it was the commentators, the camera work or what, but I could very easily sit there for hours on end watching guys like Sigel, Bustamante, Strickland, Archer...Now? I don't know - I will still watch, but somehow just doesn't feel as exciting or compelling.
